I stepped away from this book for a few weeks. While it's deeply captivating, it's the kind of story that truly shines when read at a leisurely pace. The world of Osten Ard is breathtaking, even in its darkest corners. Part of that slower rhythm comes with the territory—this is, after all, the notorious 'middle book' of the trilogy, where everything that can go wrong, does.
