Interesting explanation about what really went wrong with Optus last week.

The short version: it looks like Optus doesn't control its own core network. Its parent company Singapore Telecom does. Optus just resells it.

Which is why Optus' CEO was so vague about what the issue actually was: she was protecting her bosses in Singapore.

There is a change control record (or some/many of them) that says what should have been done to the #optus network at 4am that morning.

Is there any good reason that Kelly Bayer-Sager would not hit File, Print as PDF, Send to admin@optusConsumerWebsite with a simple: "Post this, unannotated, now".

(Oh, it includes passwords or credentials? Yeah nah. And ifit really does? That's a good reason for delaying the post for the 15 minutes it takes to sack the author and change the passwords.)

Yesterday’s #optus outage is why I have three different providers in my house. Some phones are Optus, some are #telstra ($$) and our household internet connection is neither. #optusoutage #optusfail

I notice that #Telstra and #TPG have been almost silent on the #OptusOutage, knowing full well that it could be them next. Telstra is the least likely to share infrastructure or enter into cross vendor failover agreements. All of them are too centralised.
