I had wanted to be able to search through #alamtg meeting minutes for a while, and this was the kick in the pants I needed. In mid-August of 2022, I had a working system for fetching minutes from the #alamtg legistar, and using s3-ocr to put that into a sqlite database running under datasette.
Once I had this working, @MaggieFero immediately asked for #oakmtg, and luckily it was the same underlying system.
So one month into the project, we had 50k pages across two cities. Not bad!

Hey, if you follow #BayArea politics (hi #alamtg, #oakmtg). you’ve probably heard of this thing called “ABAG" -- the Association of Bay Area Governments. They pass resolutions that cities abide by around things like housing and transit.

Are the consequences for OPD who arrest people without enough evidence to charge?
And after publicity that there is an arrest -
Most recent development: the nine youth have been released without charge after the cops admitted that they lack the evidence to charge them.
Yet mayor Sheng Thao still thinks "there has to be consequences." For them? Even though they are now entirely cleared of charges? Fuck that noise.

Ugh. Lafayette Police chased a car into #Oakland early Thursday morning, and the driver being chased crashed into a pedestrian, a utility pole and a traffic signal on 35th Ave and Penniman. Driver arrested, injured pedestrian taken away on a stretcher. I hope she wasn't too badly injured, but it looked pretty serious on some video posted online. @RapidResponseTeam #oakmtg

There was a pretty bad hit and run on a cyclist at E 12th St & 39th Ave in Fruitvale on Thursday evening, per this Nextdoor post. I'm not putting the victim's name on blast here, but it sounds like he did what he could in terms of getting appropriate medical help and documenting the incident. I'm glad it wasn't even worse.
Sorry for all my moaning today about drivers, but if you're in #Oakland, please support the Mayor's proposed increase in street safety funding, and efforts by @BikeEastBay, @RapidResponseTeam & others to make our city safer for cyclists and pedestrians. #oakmtg #BikeOAK #BikeOakland

For years, the #Oakland Police Department released weekly crime reports which allowed the public to track trends in violent crime and property crime, and compare the year-to-date stats with recent years. However, since a #ransomware hack in early February, those weekly reports have not been published. (I do not know if the statistics are still being compiled internally.)
This would be unfortunate in any case, but at the current moment, when there is a concerted effort to stoke a crime panic and blame our new Mayor and our new DA for being "pro-perp" or "puppets of anti-police activist Cat Brooks," the lack of statistics means that it is much harder to corroborate or refute perceptions of increased danger and lawlessness. #oakmtg #OPD

so they appoint Miriam Mehari CISO since Aug'22, as an internal candidate after she'd been a DIT admin since 2005. here's hoping Mayor Thao use a very large broom to sweep DIT in the #ransomware aftermath. -
A ransomware gang has begun to leak data from the City of Oakland that was stolen in a recent cyberattack.

"The Berkeley and Oakland Police Departments have been contacted; the latter multiple times. In one instance, bicyclist Ellie Mead suffered a serious head injury and was allegedly not allowed to have a case opened for her and instead to "call back later," according to EB Bike Party."
OPD delayed and non-response to 911 calls is bad enough. Not jumping on multiple events like this must not happen! -
