In this week's gardening blog post I share how I saved seeds from my dahlias and Floret zinnias.
Seed saving has kept me busy throughout autumn and early winter, but it's satisfying to have so many packets safely stored away ready for spring. 💐

As a bonus blog post today, it's currently apple harvesting season, and we've been busy processing them in various forms to keep over the autumn and winter.

Damask rose harvest is in full swing these days. Every morning I go out and harvest the open roses, and then they go straight into the freezer for storage until the harvest is over. #garden #nzgardening #nzgarden #BloomScrolling #rose

My fedex package has arrived containing my course work for Floret’s Flower Farm workshop. I’m so excited to be studying online with them for six weeks in January 2026.
This has been a dream I’ve wanted to do for years. #floret #gardening #nzgarden #garden

Three hydrangeas in a fence line shaded spot mysteriously dying in late summer. Enjoying contemplating which flowering native to replace them with. Possibly Brachyglottis B. repanda x B. greyii 'Leith Gold'? #gardening #nzgarden

Pohutukawa still coming along nicely. I have another 9 or so that I'm going to move over to this sheet and the 1st of March.
Going to bonsai some (apparently in a few years). I think I'll probably have to look after these for another year or so at least until the rest are ready to give away. #gardening #nzgarden

Mōrena, More beauty to start the day. Albertine flowers once and for a long time. Hardy and a favourite. There was a large bush of this on the way to school when I was young. I would stop to smell the apple-y fragrance. Got to watch the thorns though. Great fence jumper deterrent. Have a happy day!

With the warm and wet spring weather here in the Waikato, everything is growing like topsy! On the plus side, the garden is full of flowers and honeybees and this sheltered wee corner makes for a rather delightful mid afternoon hidey space 😁
