While I was cycling through my wallpapers, I stumbled upon this one.

The picture itself is soothing, but the acrophobia it evoked made me realize this would be a perfect scene for my Visual Novel's climax:

The protagonist is standing on the ledge of a building (not necessarily a corporate building, just a very tall skyscraper) as the wind tries to push you down. The enemy is behind you, and you have one final choice to make to save yourself. Make the right choice, and win the game. Make the wrong choice, and it's game over.

But the right choice... it's not obvious, you have to look on your memories, inventory or activate a specific skill...

it'll be glorious!

And this made me realize the potential of camera angles to put the protagonist in dangerous situations. This is the tone I want for my #VisualNovel ! #gamedev #indiedev #NymVN

Got this is for my visual novel: During her VR training, our protagonist will be briefed for her missions in a military fashion :blobsalute: with drums in the background, even if the mission is to buy groceries at the super market 🤭

Being an android, the perfect delivery of the goods for errands is crucial - otherwise she won't get the points necessary for graduation and she won't be downloaded into a physical body. So the seriousness is appropriate.

I think I got an idea that will give some colorful additions to my VN:

The real world!

During her virtual school stay, Nym will manage to hack around some info windows to the real world, and download videos taken from rent-a-window appliances (Some people rent their windows for landscape purposes, like virtual wallpapers, but taken from real cams from inside their apartment windows. Skyscrapers have the most demanded windows, as people can see virtually everything.

So Nym downloads some videos taken from these windows, specifically those that aim towards busy streets so she can watch people. Actual people! Real people from the real world!!! :blobaww:

Unfortunately she can't download real time videos, as everything in the GRID happens in hypertime. A real-time window would be frozen, like in very slow motion. Not very interesting.

But videos from the recent past... definitely yes!

This way she can experience stuff that happens in the real world, preparing her for when she's downloaded into a new body.

The big question is... how to incorporate this into the plot? 🤔

Currently on hiatus due to personal reasons 😔

But I've been playing a few cyberpunk games, and they've been giving me a few ideas.

Androids live in VR, which mean I could access Virtual spaces created by other people. That could help me looking for clues inside hacking victims.

Another question is how to implement hacking minigames. I want to make it cool but also kinda realistic. Maybe start with fine system info and allow me to hack a node.

Also, what should I do with Nym inside VR? Allow her to experience pain? psychic damage? Perhaps gaining intel by allowing Nym to take the form of a given person, for sexual purposes? Maybe to provide cathartic experiences, like forgiveness and so on? 🤔

I also need to make hacking fun. Maybe just later of spying on ppl from VR and guessing their private rooms passwords? That could work. Big I need to think about it more...

Oh! What about using those obnoxious "this app needs permissions" prompt? If Nym decides to use all or nothing permissions on purpose, she could fool customers into giving her access to tons of stuff! 😈

I got an idea for my #Cyberpunk #VisualNovel, "Nym: The Synthetic Cinderella". ( #NymVN )

I think having purely virtual, protected spaces inside VR is a waste of time, given that androids are supposed to get training to move and navigate in the real world after they're installed in their bodies.

So here's a thought: Why not *simulate* the city so that the androids have to actually travel and expose themselves to simulated humans, so that by the time they get to the real world, they'll know the proper procedures?

This also serves as player exposure to the world and serves as the "everyday life" for Step 1 (Once upon a time, there was...) in the Pixar formula. (See http://thescientistvideographer.com/wordpress/the-pixar-storytelling-formula/ ). So the player will have to navigate the world, travel via subway, take cabs, etc. and get used to it. Plus, IMMERSION! You can't have a sci-fi futuristic world without the skyscrapers and flying cars! :blobaww:

(And when our protagonist wakes up in an unknown city slum, with no sight of the city landmarks, the player will KNOW that something went very, very wrong, bwahahahahah! 😈 )

I just got a wonderful idea for my #cyberpunk #visualnovel.

Nym, my android protagonist, has a functionality that allows her to spend an extra hour of her day in her virtual reality bedroom.

She also has a cute giraffe plushy that her AI mother gave her when she was little.

So here's the idea: Every night, when I animate the "good night" scene, I will show her holdng her plushie while inside her VR bedroom. Some times she will look tired, sometimes neutral, sometimes sad, and in very sad days, she will cry herself asleep. But all this in her VR room, because androids don't show emotions to humans - save counted exceptions (plot reasons).

So I'm reserving a special scene for the end, when she finally finds a master to take care of her: the goodnight scene will show her not in her VR bedroom, but in her actual bedroom, sleeping next to her master! :blobaww:

Paid 100 USD advance to character artist 2; Got preliminary sketch for MC's mom. Will need adjustments.

Gave full description of my backgrounds to background artist 1, estimate is 200 USD.

Bought lewd sound pack from adult voice actress for around 70 USD.

My VN (tagged #NymVN) is set in a #Cyberpunk future. Based on a short story of mine, it's about a lesbian :lesbian: gynoid (aka sexbot) who gets stolen/smuggled by the triads and must find loopholes in her programming (malicious compliance) to seek help and find a legitimate master. While it will have many sex scenes and mature themes (very #nsfw), I want it to be much more than just a porn game; it's story-based, has deep characters with amazing back stories and has lots of drama. (It's also the sequel to an actual #SciFi novel I'm writing! 🤯).

I want to make 2 versions: One without sex scenes for the general players, and one with all the lewd stuff for *that* specific public (hey, sex sells 😅). I'm also going to add a feature so that you can switch POV or even turn off certain sex scenes based on the player's gender and sexual orientation.

My GUI is finally done!

This time I was able to use GIMP's render features to implement a grid and its special effects allowed me to add gradients and highlights to the UI, giving it a metallic and 3D look.

Once I finish with the GUI I'll move on to improve the game mechanics, and finally I'll start working on the dialogue and graphics for the rest of the scenes. I might have to hire a professional artist for the *blush* sex scenes. 😳

TO-DO:

* Fix the volume of the first bgmusic; it's too loud.

* Add more elaborate backgrounds, the ones I used have practically zero content.

* Get a more pretty UI for the text window; add "hide" and "show" buttons.

* Buy the full versions of the music I used

* Improve Nym's sprites; draw her with more realistic proportions and get rid of the nipples censorship; also, put her arms where they should be when she's... *ahem* doing stuff.

* Write the sex scenes in the next chapter

For all of this I need budget. I'll set up my patreon in a couple of weeks.

My opera prima Visual Novel is taking shape. Thanks to the "Sutemo" character generator I was able to quickly create my main characters and build over 20 different expressions in them.

Well, not that easily, the tool only has one type of eyes and face shape, and it has no option for lewd expressions (and no nipples 😕 ); but I was able to use a little image editing to create lewd and even orgasm expressions in the characters, both with eyes open and closed (tee hee :blobcatgiggle: )

Now I've been able to get my main character, Nym, to get aroused, start doing lewd stuff (narration only) and get embarrassed when she gets caught.

The fact that these expression changes happen as fast as two or three clicks, makes it feel super-immersive! :blobhearteyesa:

Finally it feels like I'm doing something tangible! :blobcheer:

I still don't know if I'll be able to finish a good product, but as a first attempt, it has hope.
