Today, AFAC News released the Bushfire Seasonal Outlook for Summer. Northern and Central parts of NSW are carrying high grass fuel loads and are entering summer drier than normal, with no clear indication of increased rainfall to ease conditions.
These areas are likely to face an increased risk of fast-moving, intense grass and forest fires. In central and southern NSW, ongoing dry conditions on the western slopes of the ranges have led to significant underlying dryness in some forested areas. If rain continues to miss these areas, the risk of difficult-to-control fires will increase through summer.
If you live, work, or travel through bush fire-prone areas, ensure you are prepared. Review and discuss your bush fire survival plan so you know what to do if threatened by fires.
