@koen @rrr @Marloezovic De Modal foundation (in NL gevestigd) werkt gestaag aan een Europese infrastructuur. Met EuroSky.social hebben ze een Europese PDS opgezet waardoor de personal data space in Europa staat. Met mu.social hebben ze een eigen microblogging app gelanceerd. De roadmap is publiek, maar gaat gestaag en vedl@sneller dan ik had verwacht. Ook #blacksky heeft veel werk verzet om onafhankelijke infrastructuur te bouwen. Net als #northsky

yes! logged into #blacksky today since #bluesky is down - can catch up with all my peeps who did likewise or over on #northsky Using my normal handle, of course - folks who are just on bluesky because its not twitter, this is also a reason - if Bluesky the company disappears, no biggie.

The reason I fight #northsky is because members of the staff, and their besties spent more than 6 months telling people I was a “rape apologist”, because a couple trans people i didn’t know at the time who were friends with someone they don’t like followed me, and I followed back.

Case in point: Northsky just sent out an email update about beginning their "phase two": 26% of their users have already been migrated to their new PDS, now they're moving on to creating their own app, moderation labeler, support for private data, "and more".

Reading about allegations that Northsky is run by admins on a power trip. This is funny since the rabidly anti-fediverse Bluesky users always love talking about how Mastodon comprises of "fiefdoms", or "HOAs" etc. Unsuprisingly Bluesky isn't any different in that there can be disagreements about this stuff once you introduce the slightest bit of actual decentralization.

I don't know how useful it is to tell people how "truly decentralized" Bluesky is, or that it's funded by the likes of Blockchain Capital, but-!
I do think it's worth promoting efforts like https://www.blackskyweb.xyz and https://northskysocial.com that work towards wrestling control of our online lives away from corporations back to us.
