There's little evidence that any one healthcare system performs better across the board than another. Countries improve their healthcare systems by reforming what exists rather than adopting an alternative. The UK performs behind the USA for preventable causes mortality. A US style privatised system is clearly not the route. Johnny Mercer and Kate Andrews are deceiving us.

#nhs75 a lot of my family worked in the NHS, and any still do. It's an astounding thing, don't let the current shower of political bastards, many/most of whom don't need the NHS, to do it down, continue to cut funding, then find fault and use that to justify dismantling it.

Care and compassion at the limits of science: a school talk for the #NHS 75th birthday
As part of the #NHS75 anniversary year, I volunteered to give a talk to the year 10 students at a high school in Bradford. They listened well and asked good questions. These are my notes, more or less as delivered on the day.

I was extremely premature, lucky to survive. 22 years later I developed a rare progressive #neuro disease and received free life saving health and medical support ever since. In countries with private healthcare and/or insurance systems people with my diagnosis can die, cos can’t afford fees, or their insurance doesn’t cover chronic illness, or insurer doesn’t understand why strong chemo is needed and refuses. NHS saves lives like mine. #ThankYouNHS. #NHS75

Conclusion: Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a comprehensive health system approach that facilitates a wide range of health services and significantly improves the life expectancy at birth and healthy life expectancy.
If brexit taught us anything, it is that we must defend, and hold on tight to that which we hold precious.
