Both too little and too much sleep may be linked to faster aging throughout the body. Researchers analyzing 23 biological aging clocks found the lowest aging levels among people sleeping about 6.4 to 7.8 hours per day. Short or long sleep was also associated with numerous conditions affecting the brain, heart, lungs, metabolism, and digestive system.

LSD1 (KDM1A) demethylates H3K4me1/2 via FAD-dependent oxidation — removing active enhancer/promoter marks and licensing transcriptional repression.
In the CoREST complex, it couples demethylation to HDAC1/2-mediated deacetylation for compounded silencing.
LSD1 inhibition extends lifespan in model organisms. The local H₂O₂ byproduct at demethylation sites may be a redox signal — the full mechanistic picture isn't resolved yet.

Another example of rapamycin + something increasing mouse lifespan more than rapamycin or something alone. In this case, the something is trametinib, an anti-cancer drug.

A new paper in Nature Aging suggests age-related changed are nonlinear, and change is most rapid around ages 45 and 60.
As someone rapidly approaching the first, biggest hump: gulp!

The idea is that ME/CFS may be partly driven by dysfunctional autophagy (a process by which cells recycle waste), and rapa could help. Fascinating, I hope it works!

The world’s oldest woman, French nun Lucile Randon, who survived both world wars, the 1919 flu pandemic, and even saw off a covid infection aged 117!!, died yesterday aged 118 years and 340 days.

There’s a new Hallmarks of Aging paper!
The original 2013 paper is the most cited in biogerontology, and listed 9 potential causes of aging. The new ‘expanded universe’ adds 3:
• Disabled ‘macroautophagy’
• Microbiome changes
• Chronic inflammation -
Great summary of last year in longevity science from Eleanor Sheekey! I’d missed the paper on learning from the regeneration of reindeer antlers, and I enjoyed being reminded of the WILD way immune cells lengthen telomeres (by theft from other cells!!)
