In March #Heliboard asked people to help gather gesture data to implement a #FOSS alternative to the closed gesture typing library Heliboard currently relies on. Since then over 700.000(!) examples were submitted. The new 4.0 release includes opt-in background data gathering in the hopes to collect 2 million examples by November. XEP-0516 "XMPP Decentralized ID (XID)" that I've authored as part of my work on metadata reduction/serverless (https://nlnet.nl/project/ServerlessXMPP/, thanks NLnet!) has been published.
The goal is to have your XMPP identity independent of your DNS-based domain. At some point, it should be possible to have your XMPP account independent of your server.
Note that current version has issues and will be updated soon.
Work is in progress on XMPP deeper decentralization.

We're temporarily pausing the bimonthly open calls with the exception of #NGI Taler & Fediversity. We'll be taking stock of a decade of Next Generation Internet. After the summer the application process will re-open with 3 new programs under the Open Internet Stack (OIS) umbrella.
Ongoing projects are not affected and can continue their important work of providing the building blocks for an open, resilient, and secure internet for all.

As a member of @librecast that has benefited from @NGIZero I was honoured to be interviewed by Xavier Coadic for @APC in 2024.
APC is part of the #ngi0 consortium. Many projects that benefited from Grants were interviewed. All of these (including mine) interviews are collected together in a new publication by APC.
It's awesome to be a part of this and to see so many projects explain the importance of their work for #HumanRights and what motivates them.
