Another nerikomi experiment, this time a lil snek. I colored the porcelain myself -- the yellow is a Mason stain. The green is that same yellow with a touch of cobalt oxide. I'm not sure where the dark spots came from but I'm guessing they're due to tiny lumps of cobalt that I didn't mix in thoroughly. The red eyes are porcelain slip colored with a little bit of Mason stain.
This piece was inspired by a version of Henry My Son by Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie that I listened to obsessively as a kid. The song is a humourous American reworking of the Child ballad Lord Randall.

A couple of nerikomi experiments. The blue and green one had a little crack, probably from being too thin but the yellow and orange one is perfect! I love the way the pattern goes all the way through the clay with this technique. I refired the blue and green with extra glaze in the hope of filling in the crack, which doesn't always work but it did this time!

Fired & glazed! I made this cup a few weeks ago. They have some air bubbles though. Lucky that they didn’t explode in the kiln. Learning as I go working with this delicate material #porcelain #nerikomi

Another Nerikomi cup! I hope it will hold, since it’s a delicate process that demands patience, technique and meticulousness, something I’m not great at when it comes to porcelain. But, maybe I get lucky 🤞🏼 #porcelain #nerikomi

Nerikomi ‘cup’ / ‘vase’ — not sure what it is. Just hoping it stays in one piece during the bisque firing 🤞🏼The seam is ugly though (not shown here). It’s hard to hand-build with porcelain, cause it’s so malleable. Practice should make perfect! #nerikomi #porcelain #ceramics

Block reveal 2! Really happy with the result. Still quite marble-ly, but in a good way 🥳 next up -> building a cup by hand. Not easy, as porcelain is very soft in comparisons stoneware clay. But, will wing it :) #nerikomi #porcelain #pigments

So much fun with Nerikomi again today! It’s not easy to visualize how the inside will turn out, so you need to spec it out in your mind. Next step is making slabs for cups & bowls. Hand-building with porcelain is a delicate matter. There are also some seams, due to how the slices are pot together and rolled out, so firing will be tricky, (it can crack or explode if there are air bubbles) but it’s gonna be 💥 if it holds! #porcelain #nerikomi
