#NenanaRidgeComplex forest roads restricted to firefighter traffic only
BY 2025 NENANA RIDGE COMPLEX on AUGUST 7, 2025
“…Fire Update: Unmanned Aerial Systems continue to detect areas of heat, many of which are well within the fires’ perimeters. Guided by the drone operators, the Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection Fairbanks 1 Crew is digging out hot spots along the edge of the fires so that they will be exposed to the forecast rains. Digging out the areas of heat along the perimeter to catch rain will utilize the natural elements to extinguish them. If these areas were not exposed, they would continue to smolder in the deeper layers of duff where the rain would have little to no effect. Excavators continue to work in Little Goldstream community, breaking up dozer berms and rehabbing fire lines. Graders have started working on Dineege Avenue and Toghotthele Road…”

Occasional smoke will be visible on warm days as repair work continues on Nenana Ridge Complex
BY 2025 #NENANARIDGECOMPLEX on AUGUST 6, 2025“…Fire Update: Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection Fairbanks 1 Crew arrived back on Bonanza Creek Fire Tuesday after taking days off. They gridded for hot spots on the fire’s edge along Nenana Ridge Road West. Wednesday they will grid the north perimeter working west from Nenana Ridge Road. The incoming Incident Commander and a member of operations took a reconnaissance flight Tuesday morning to survey the fire area and get a scope of the remaining repair work. Graders and compactors are working together on forest roads while excavators continue to scatter vegetative material over control lines and breakup dozer berms. There will continue to be occasional smoke visible from interior areas of the fires as heavy, down trees continue to smolder with warmer and dryer conditions…”

Cool, wet weather slows repairs on #NenanaRidgeComplex as smaller organization assumes command
BY 2025 NENANA RIDGE COMPLEX on AUGUST 5, 2025
“…Fire Update: Rain made forest roads slippery and unsafe for travel Monday slowing suppression repair work across much of the complex. Traveling on roads that had been graded would have required them to be work on again. The Unmanned Aerial System flew reconnaissance missions between rain showers mapping repair work and seeking hot spots. The helicopter assigned to the complex responded to Anderson where a structure fire spread into the wildlands. Bucket work kept the fire from spreading beyond a tenth of an acre.
Fire management is transitioning to a smaller organization based out of Fairbanks Area Forestry. They will assume command Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM. Their focus will be on suppression repair of control lines and forest roads. Fire engines will continue to patrol monitoring the any issues that could compromise containment. There will continue to be occasional smoke visible from interior areas of the fires as heavy, down trees continue to smolder when warmer and dryer conditions return…”

Hot spots mitigated as suppression repair continues on #NenanaRidgeComplex
BY 2025 NENANA RIDGE COMPLEX on AUGUST 4, 2025
“…Fire Update: Firefighters in UTVs extinguished hot spots along the Toghotthele Road Saturday. An Unmanned Aerial System flew the road Sunday identifying additional areas of heat for firefighters. A helicopter made bucket drops on several areas that were smoldering and producing smoke. The majority of these were within the interior of the Bonanza Creek Fire. One area on the fire’s edge, above Bonanza Creek at the eastern end of Nenana Ridge required multiple bucket drops to cool it down. Road work continues on Skinny Dick’s Logging Road, Nenana Ridge Road, East Nenana Ridge Road, and Bonanza Creek Road. Engine crews are repairing helispots along the southern flank of Goldstream Creek Fire. This work includes scattering slash and trees that were removed from the landing zone back over the cleared area. Heavy equipment continues working in the Little Goldstream Community…”

Warm, dry conditions aid repair on #NenanaRidgeComplex
BY 2025 NENANA RIDGE COMPLEX on AUGUST 3, 2025
“…Fire Update: Heavy equipment is still working in the Little Goldstream Community. Firefighters in UTVs are investigating reported hot spots along the Toghotthele Road. A road grader has started working on Skinny Dick’s Logging Road. The road surface is still too wet on the Nenana Ridge Road so the grader working there is cleaning out the ditches, pulling material onto the road surface. On East Nenana Ridge Road, an excavator is breaking apart dozer berms and opening drainage to allow the road surface to dry before it can be graded. Resource Advisors (READ) are inspecting repair work to firelines and spike camps along the southeastern portion of Goldstream Creek Fire. READs are technical specialists who advise on the protection of natural and cultural resources during wildland fire incidents. They helped to develop the suppression repair plan and will see that its specifications are met. Unmanned Aerial Systems are still being used to locate areas still holding heat. This drone, with infrared cameras, is working along the northern and southern flanks of the Bonanza Creek Fire. Fire engines are still patrolling the fire area looking for hot spots and mitigating hazards…”

#GoldstreamCreekFire and #BonanzaCreekFire see continued suppression success
BY 2025 #NENANARIDGECOMPLEX on JULY 25, 2025
…Fire Update: The Nenana Ridge Complex has seen substantial progress in containment over the past several days. On the Goldstream Creek Fire, the northern most edge is in monitor and patrol status, with little fire activity throughout the area. Wrapping around to the eastern portion of the fire, in the zone west of Ohio Creek and northeast of Skinny Dick’s Road, containment line has been established. Pike Interagency Hotshot Crew moved out of the area Thursday. A helicopter assisted with the move, sling-loading the crew’s gear out. Platte Canyon Suppression Module has been working an area just north of Straight Creek, adjacent to where Pike IHC had camped. As Platte Canyon demobilizes, Pike IHC will shift to that area to continue suppression work…

Alaska Division of Forestry wildfire roundup 2025BY ALASKA DIVISION OF FORESTRY & FIRE PROTECTION on JULY 19, 2025
🔥 Priority Wildfire Roundup, Alaska DOF July 19, 2025 🔥
The weekend brings a mix of warmer weather in areas of the state, followed by increased chances of rain. Beginning Sunday and continuing into the start of the week, more widespread precipitation is expected as a southwesterly flow pulls moisture into the West Coast, which will extend further into the Interior on Monday and Tuesday.
Precipitation and cooler weather will limit fires to creeping and smoldering. However, duff layers in the southern regions are still dry and holding heat, making resistance to control very high until more wetting rains are received.
Firefighters continue the arduous work of mop-up to ensure the fire doesn’t cross firelines. Crews are also backhauling equipment and gear no longer needed. With moderated conditions, many fire management organizations will downsize in the coming days.

Alaska Division of Forestry wildfire roundup 2025BY ALASKA DIVISION OF FORESTRY & FIRE PROTECTION on JULY 18, 2025
Heat remains within the perimeters of many Alaska fires, smoldering in the duff and organic materials. Here, a firefighter is “dry mopping,” or digging out the burning material, breaking it apart, and mixing it with mineral soil to smother the fire and prevent re-ignition. July 17, DOF.
🔥 Priority Wildfire Roundup, Alaska DOF July 18, 2025 🔥
Fire conditions continue to improve across existing fires on Division of Forestry and Fire Protection’s response area. Much of the firefighters’ focus across these fires is on mopping up, securing fireline, and backhauling equipment and supplies while remaining vigilant for new fire starts.

Alaska Division of Forestry wildfire roundup 2025BY ALASKA DIVISION OF FORESTRY & FIRE PROTECTION on JULY 15, 2025
🔥 Priority Wildfire Roundup, Alaska DOF July 15, 2025 🔥
Restoring uninterrupted traffic flow on the Parks Highway has been a top priority for the Division of Forestry and Fire Protection. A surge force of an additional 100 firefighters sent to the Nenana Ridge Complex are focused on removing hazards along the highway to alleviate traffic delays due to the fire. However, a planned construction project by the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities may result in construction-related delays even though the firefighting efforts are nearing completion along the highway.
Cooler temperatures and rain in areas across the state resulted in few new fire starts on Monday; however, some previous lighting starts continue to show.

Despite hot and dry weather, there were minimal new fire starts on Sunday across Alaska. The eastern Interior will be the hottest today, but temperatures will become cooler towards the west, with cloud cover and rain moving in from the coast over the next two days. Temperatures should be moderate and close to seasonal averages by Wednesday and Thursday, which should help moderate fire behavior further.
Today, extreme fire behavior could occur where fire weather conditions are elevated, although areas with smoke cover could see moderated fire behavior. The central and eastern Interior will likely experience increased smoke and haze today. Moisture to the west will result in less smoke production and improved air quality.

Alaska remains at a Preparedness Level (PL) 4. Initial attack was light on Saturday. There are more than 1,900 personnel assigned to 17 staffed fires across the state. Over 750,000 acres have burned in Alaska this year – with more than 300,000 of those acres burned in the last week. High temperatures are expected to peak on Sunday before turning cooler.
Until weather conditions become cooler and wetter, fuels will be available and ready to burn and increased fire activity is expected to continue today. With increased fire activity, additional smoke production will decrease air quality.

Alaska remains at a Preparedness Level 5 and the nation’s highest priority. Initial attack was light again on Wednesday. More than 1,800 personnel are supporting 20 staffed fires statewide, including four crews mobilized from the Northwest Fire Fighting Compact (NW Compact) and six crews mobilized from state-to-state agreements. Some fires show little to no increase in containment percentages due to the focus of effort on point protection for communities and infrastructure.

Cooler temperatures and light precipitation have provided firefighters the opportunity to engage in more direct strategies as fire behavior decreases. Crews work to secure lines ahead of another expected trend towards warmer, dryer weather. Many fire show no increase in containment percentages due to the focus of effort on point protection for structures and infrastructure. More favorable weather will allow firefighters to move into establishing and confirming containment line in coming days.

Alaska remains at a Preparedness Level 5. Initial attack was light, and new starts were met with a swift response. There are nearly 2,000 personnel assigned to 28 staffed fires in the state. This year, more than 520,000 acres have burned, with more than 180,000 acres consumed in the last seven days. Delays on the Parks Highway continued Sunday due to firefighting efforts on the Nenana Ridge Complex and concerns for public safety. Keeping the Parks Highway open and safe continues to be a top priority. The Division of Forestry and Fire Protection is working closely with the Alaska State Troopers and Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to minimize delays.
