Red Flag Warnings for Copper River Basin and Tok Cutoff Today, Delta Area Tomorrow
BY ALASKA FIRE PIOS on AUGUST 6, 2025
“…The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, Wednesday, August 6th, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM for the Copper River Basin extending to the Tok Cutoff. Hot, dry, and windy conditions are expected, creating a high risk for new fires to ignite and for existing fires to spread rapidly.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring or are about to occur. In Alaska, this means warm temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds are combining with dry fuels (like grass and dead trees) to create a high risk of wildfire.
This warning is also in effect for the Delta area tomorrow, Thursday, August 7th, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM…”

#7MileLookoutFire crews focus on remaining hotspots and equipment removal
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on AUGUST 5, 2025
“…Operations: As suppression efforts begin to wind down on the 7 Mile Lookout Fire, crews remain focused on securing the fire perimeter and preparing for the eventual removal of equipment. Firefighters from Tanana Chiefs Type 2 Initial Attack, Gannett Glacier Type 2 Initial Attack, Pioneer Peak Hotshots, and North Star Crew continue working along 7 Mile Lookout Road. Their focus continues to be on piling and burning hazard trees and woody debris to widen containment lines and reduce the risk of future fire spread, particularly in areas with lingering heat in deep duff layers.Crews also conducted multiple test burns between two previously burned sections on the southern perimeter to remove remaining black spruce and unburned fuels. However, due to high humidity and recent scattered rain showers, fuels under the canopy remained too wet to carry fire effectively. These burns produced limited results. On Tuesday, firefighters will shift to the southeast corner of the fire to continue piling trees, stacking logs, eliminating remaining hot spots, and reinforcing firelines…”

Heavy Equipment Repairs Caribou Creek on the #HimalayaRoadFire”
BY ALASKA FIRE PIOS on AUGUST 5, 2025
“…Operations: Excavators will continue repairing the dozer lines that were created. There has been a lot of progress in the Caribou Creek area, and this work will continue. The excavators are still working the 35-40 miles of dozer line and heading towards Glacier Creek near the Elliot Highway as weather allows.
“Suppression repair for firelines takes on unique challenges due to the state’s specific environment. The process is a vital post-wildfire activity that focuses on restoring the landscape and mitigating the damage caused by firefighting efforts. A major concern is the impact of heavy equipment on permafrost, which can be easily disturbed. Therefore, in these areas, repairs are often postponed until the ground freezes in winter to prevent further damage and erosion, leading to the repairs having an extended timeline. The areas that do not have permafrost are the priority to complete before the ground freezes…”

Crews focus on mop-up with drone support on the #7MileLookoutFire
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on AUGUST 1, 2025
“…Operations:
A test fire was conducted Thursday on unburned interior fuels along the eastern edge of the 7 Mile Lookout Fire. However, high humidity limited fire behavior and prevented a clean, complete burnout. Firefighters will continue to monitor conditions and test fuel moisture in preparation for a full burnout operation when conditions allow. The Tanana Chiefs T2IA, Pioneer Peak IHC, Gannett Glacier T2IA, and North Star Fire Crews are cutting and piling fire-weakened trees to reduce hazards and prevent reignition from smoldering duff layers. Along the southern perimeter near 7 Mile Lookout Road, crews are gridding for hot spots, conducting mop-up, and using folding tanks and hose lines to saturate deep-burning fuels. Piled debris will be burned in place, and drones are assisting in detecting lingering heat to reinforce containment lines on the southern and western flanks.
Although cooler and wetter conditions are forecasted as fall approaches, fire season is not yet over. A drying trend may still return, and firefighters remain focused on completing suppression objectives while the operational window remains open…”

Conditions remain hot, dry in Yukon Flats while rain reduces activity across much of Alaska
BY BLM ALASKA FIRE SERVICE on JULY 29, 2025
“…Even the #PtarmiganComplex near Central and Circle is now seeing substantiative rainfall. Crews there are focused on backhauling equipment and completing suppression repair work, including rehabilitation of a dozer line built during efforts on the now-extinguished Deadwood Fire.“Statewide, 405 wildfires have burned just under 1 million acres this season. In the Upper Yukon Zone, covering 51.9 million acres in northeastern Alaska, 57 fires have burned roughly 180,700 acres. Five fires were called out in the Zone Monday, while 32 remain active. The Zone also recorded 891 lightning strikes, most accompanied by rain.
“Elsewhere in BLM AFS’s protection area, which spans the northern half of Alaska, fire activity continues to taper off. The #GoldrunComplex of fires between Ambler and Kiana, the #RoundaboutComplex near Huslia, the #LushFire near Rampart, and the #NinetyeightFire north of the Salcha River southeast of Fairbanks are all wrapping up suppression efforts. Crews are backhauling gear and returning equipment to the BLM AFS Cache at Fort Wainwright.”

Hard work pays off as crews begin burnout operations on the #7MileLookoutFire
BY 2025 7 MILE LOOKOUT FIRE on JULY 29, 2025
“Today, fire crews will work to extinguish hot spots throughout the area, and continue removing vegetation adjacent to the remaining control lines around the fire perimeter. If fuels continue to dry, fire managers plan to ignite the remaining unburned vegetation along the 7 Mile Lookout Access Road, and continue burning around the southern and eastern side of the fire. Once the burnis complete, firefighters will continue mop up operations.
“Torching on the 7 Mile Lookout Fire
If the burnout goes forward, smoke will likely be visible from Tok and along the Tok Cutoff of the Glenn Highway. Drivers should monitor current road conditions and possible travel delays at 511.alaska.gov. Use caution when traveling in areas with reduced visibility and expect smoke.” -

Firefighters prepare for burnout operation on 7 Mile Lookout Fire; burn may be lit Sunday
BY 2025 #7MileLookoutFire on JULY 26, 2025“…Today, fire crews will complete final preparations for the planned burnout operation. If weather conditions allow, fire managers could proceed with the full burnout operation as early as Sunday. Then fire managers plan to ignite vegetation between the 7 Mile Lookout Access Road and the bulldozer line south of Eagle Trail and the fire’s edge. This strategic burnout operation will allow fire managers to guide the fire safely down to established control lines, rather than risk unpredictable flare-ups from heat pockets. By directing the fire’s movement, crews can maintain control and reduce the threat to nearby communities. Once the burn is complete, firefighters will continue mop up operations…”

Alaska Division of Forestry wildfire roundup 2025BY ALASKA DIVISION OF FORESTRY & FIRE PROTECTION on JULY 19, 2025
🔥 Priority Wildfire Roundup, Alaska DOF July 19, 2025 🔥
The weekend brings a mix of warmer weather in areas of the state, followed by increased chances of rain. Beginning Sunday and continuing into the start of the week, more widespread precipitation is expected as a southwesterly flow pulls moisture into the West Coast, which will extend further into the Interior on Monday and Tuesday.
Precipitation and cooler weather will limit fires to creeping and smoldering. However, duff layers in the southern regions are still dry and holding heat, making resistance to control very high until more wetting rains are received.
Firefighters continue the arduous work of mop-up to ensure the fire doesn’t cross firelines. Crews are also backhauling equipment and gear no longer needed. With moderated conditions, many fire management organizations will downsize in the coming days.

Alaska Division of Forestry wildfire roundup 2025BY ALASKA DIVISION OF FORESTRY & FIRE PROTECTION on JULY 18, 2025
Heat remains within the perimeters of many Alaska fires, smoldering in the duff and organic materials. Here, a firefighter is “dry mopping,” or digging out the burning material, breaking it apart, and mixing it with mineral soil to smother the fire and prevent re-ignition. July 17, DOF.
🔥 Priority Wildfire Roundup, Alaska DOF July 18, 2025 🔥
Fire conditions continue to improve across existing fires on Division of Forestry and Fire Protection’s response area. Much of the firefighters’ focus across these fires is on mopping up, securing fireline, and backhauling equipment and supplies while remaining vigilant for new fire starts.
