  1. #DuckDuckGo è giù, come annunciato su Twitter.

  3. Thoughts from me, as I read it (mostly for myself, so may be nonsense!):

The #Neeva example and this quote:

"...new general search engines can avoid many of the costs historically borne by an incumbent like Google. As Neeva recognized..."

It's interesting and shows #Google focus on costs (and how bloated they are?) compared to newer competitors.

  5. Internetsearch is getting worse and worse. Some search engines just stop being useful (#Google) or existing (#Neeva). Others do shady businesses (#Brave) or work with them (#kagi).

There are some outliers like @Mojeek which admittedly keeps getting better and there’s options like #Metager or #Nona too.

But surfacing relevant info keeps getting harder. Now I often use at least two #SearchEngines to find what I need.

  8. The ex-CEO of #Neeva, now owned by #Snowflake, says “window is shutting” for #AI search disruption.

On the one hand, he would say that, wouldn’t he?

On the other, he does have a point about the predictability of the enterprise business as opposed to the consumer world — which is why I am very happy to stick to the former.

  10. The little search engine that couldn’t

"A couple of ex-Googlers set out to create the search engine of the future. They built something faster, simpler, and ad-free. So how come you’ve never heard of Neeva?"

    A very interesting article!

  15. The power of a dominant platform killed search engine Neeva:
"Because even if you make every correct decision, take no shortcuts, nail the criteria, perfect the index, and build the best search engine ever created, it probably wouldn’t matter. Right now, at least, you still can’t beat Google."

  17. "The little search engine that couldn’t"

It's a such a great piece from @davidpierce and worth every bit of time. I still feel bad #Neeva couldn't survive! If we didn't have #Ecosia it's what I would have used as my search engine

  18. I wish #Neeva had been cheaper. At $25/year for unmetered searches, I’d have switched in a heartbeat.

  21. Gah! I didn’t realise #Neeva search engine is dead already… was waiting for it to open subs in UK… if this isn’t anti competitive and not a reason to breakup Google/Alphabet I don’t know what is… theverge.com/23802382/search-e

  22. The story of #Neeva, a search engine founded by ex-Google employees, is a story of how even if your search engine is considered "better", doesn't necessarily mean you will succeed in the marketplace.

It's really the story of #Google's dominance in search for the past 20 years. No other search engines come close, #Bing & #Yahoo! Search are in distant 2nd & 3rd place.

  24. Because of that, I actually feel like I'm the only nerd who liked using the #Neeva search engine since it was better than Google at filtering out search results from low quality websites. Unfortunately they have had to shut down

  30. Post-#neeva update: I have the feeling that the search results at #Kagi are slowly getting better. What I am missing at the moment? It would be great if you didn't have to choose either Germany OR International for "Region", but could select several individually weighted regions.

  32. @shantini #Neeva was a good search engine. It's such a shame that it's gone now.
I haven't decided on a replacement as of now. At the moment I'm trying #BraveSearch and it seems solid with its own search index.
I don't really trust companies that build crypto stuff in their browser though.

My problem with #Nona and also #Kagi is, I can't just use them in incognito tabs without being logged in

  37. Vermisse #neeva nach einer Woche noch immer sehr. Aber #Kagi und #nona in Kombination helfen recht gut drüber weg (Auch wenn beide nicht ganz an die Qualität der Suchergebnisse von Neeva rankommen).

  42. A lesson in trusting corpo controlled tech: was bought out by and no longer works.
Who knows what they are doing with the user data now.

  43. @randomgeek #Neeva was nice but they tried chasing the “#AI” dragon’s tail like every other #SearchEngjne now trying to be an “#AnswerEngine,” ran out of funding runway and closed shop a month ago.

At least they had their own spider bot and index, unlike #DuckDuckGo. Probably contributed to the above collapse

    RIP #NeevaSearch

  44. Well... my favorite search engine for the last year+ will be shutting down tomorrow. Neeva, you were a great product while you lasted.

I really think there's a market for a user centric, software as a service, not users as a service search engine.

If anyone happens to know of another, just let me know.
