@rl_dane @ed1conf @mwl
I love his style of writing as well!Where there's a lineage or evolution, I really like to start as close to the origin as possible (or at least read about it). It gives context for what's come after and I find gives me a better intuition for things.
I'm looking forward to any future posts as you're using ed(1) and it's descendents :)

:BlobCatBlushPlead:
Thank you!! :D
It really has helped me understand so many other things better, and it all started about six days ago with (for reasons I honestly can't remember) wanting to switch from neovim down to nvi. ;)
Actually, I just got a copy of that last night! I like #mwl's snark! :D

Buddy, I'd show up on your doorstep with a copy of #mwl's ed Mastery and a priest. 🤣
Absolutely not hating on anyone who's forced to use VSCode,
or for whom (for whatever potentially insane reason) VSCode really is the best tool for the job,
but the fact that SO many people use that deuce of an editor without even realizing that it's a rube goldberg machine of utter insanity is sad to me.VSCode isn't a text editor, it's Chrome that was tortured until it could handle text.
That's... that's... that's just WRONG.😆

@mwl reading a bit more from the shell standard I would say \0 is not defined as an escape sequence and must be parsed by the tools:
> The backslash retains its special meaning as an escape character (see Escape Character (Backslash) ) only when followed by one of the characters:
> $ ` " \ <newline>Ugly, but for example tr does parse `\0`, so this works ;)
busybox $ echo -n "#mwl@ratoperatedvehicle.com#testPW!?" | tr '#' '\0' | base64
