  1. I was playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 but something felt... missing.

Then I realized what it was, clicked play and everything felt complete.

  2. i made the best, shittiest cyclic in the world for $0. powered by a script i stole and using the same controller i made my shitty collective from.

why it's shitty is obvious but why it's best is the PS4 controller has surprising accuracy with its gyros. I only use weighted averages to reduce noise in the script but if stationary or properly filtered, the gyro has extremely high precision (16384 units covering about 180 degrees).

    take that $600 thrustmaster.

  3. Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County KSTS → Shelter Cove 0Q5

In the end, I had to hurry a bit as the runway in Shelter Cove isn’t lit, and daylight was running out.

  4. I used SteamVR with ALVR here on Bazzite linux but WiVRn with the latest XR-izer finally plays the core set of games I like to play right now and it has passthrough capability by default so I can have my WayVR windows floating in real space. PLUS, almost biggest deal, is it runs like a dream. I maxed out my settings, resolution and FPS and MSFS2024 looks and feels GORGEOUS.

(I know all those things might sound made up but they're not lol)

One tip if on Fedora/Arch or similar is to install via the package manager for now because right now the flatpak has an outdated Mesa version included that causes graphical issues.

  5. Sacramento Executive KSAC → Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County KSTS

The Beechcraft King Air 350i that ships with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is broken. This was my first and last flight with this particular aircraft.

I had to skip several steps in the startup checklist because there are simply no instruments to monitor the engines.

Also missing: the ability to add departure, arrival, and approach procedures to the flight plan.

So, it ended up being mostly a VFR flight, which, fortunately, worked out fine thanks to the excellent weather.

The King Air 350i in MSFS 2020 is the significantly better version.

This leg’s highlights? San Francisco’s skyline, the Bay’s iconic bridges, the rugged beauty of Point Reyes, and a breathtaking sunset.

  8. It's been a while but I got a little time in #VR #MSFS2024 last night.

  9. The MicroProse B-17G Flying Fortress for #MSFS2024 is out of preview now, and the 1.0 version looks very nice. Here's a photo of the real Sentimental Journey I took in 2012, and the model in the simulator.

  10. Every game needs a fishing minigame inside, and now Flight Sim is getting one too! Drop your float plane onto any lake worldwide, hop out, and cast a line. Uses seasonal and location data to spawn appropriate species.

  11. I've been ( sim ) flying only my heli for over a year, so today decided to do a refresher in my airplane out to the Pinery Provincial Park on the Canadian side of Lake Huron.

Wrote the flight up with some screenshots:

  12. Has anyone run #msfs2024 on Bazzite? It's the one "game" that's keeping me on Windows. The idea of having Arch on my main pc is really tempting.

  13. So, completed the first flight with the new controls. They are _significantly_ different than the setup that I have for _Elite: Dangerous_ which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Once I managed to get used to the control scheme the flight was pretty smooth.

Unfortunately I'm gonna need to practice landing and using the rudder pedals a lot because the landing was one of the absolute worst yet. The passengers were not amused, but since we all lived they should be grateful.

Also a very annoying bug: during Career Mode sometimes the radio calls bug out and you can't actually complete them via hitting [Return]. The workaround is to either restart the mission (no), skip that particular part of the mission (also no), or tune the radios to the appropriate frequencies and make the calls properly (yes).

    Still, lot of fun.

  14. The Honeycomb yoke and throttles came in, and they're friggin' awesome. I'm hoping they take less effort (pain) than the other devices did. Very excited to put these to good use.
