    Update from Utah Fire Info:

Last night, strong winds caused an increase in fire activity that pushed the fire further into Colorado. No additional evacuations have occurred, and firefighters will have a presence in Paradox assessing the fire’s location and taking suppression actions. Today, afternoon thunderstorms are again expected out of the west/southwest, with wind gusts up to 60mph possible.

Fire crews continue to assess the western edge of the fire and work to cool any hot spots as the fire moves northeast. To date, 11 private structures, one USDA Forest Service structure, and one communications site have been damaged by the fire.

Smoke has increased significantly throughout the Colorado Plateau due to multiple fires in the region. Residents and visitors can expect smoky conditions to continue today. Visit fire.airnow.gov/ for information on current smoke conditions near you.

Evening update from Utah Fire Info:

The Deer Creek Fire is currently at 12,906 acres and 7% contained

Today was a calmer day on the fireline as heavy smoke moderated fire conditions and predicted strong winds did not develop early in the afternoon. This evening, however, dry thunderstorms and gusty winds are entering the area. Storms with a chance of lightning, high winds, and only a slight chance of wetting rain will continue to build to the south and the west. Winds from the incoming storms are blowing heavy smoke into the Paradox Valley. At this time, there is no additional threat or evacuations.

Firefighters continue to identify locations around the fire where spike camps can be set up to support fire crews working in remote areas. The crews will engage the fire directly, when possible, by cutting handline through vegetation and using dozers to create solid fireline down to the soil.

Various aircraft have been supporting suppression operations by dropping retardant, delivering water through bucket drops, mapping the fire perimeter, and delivering resources to crews. Additionally, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) module is flying over the fire to detect heat and provide intel to operations staff.
