I had just gotten home and was taking pics of the bristle millipedes that come out at night to browse the lichen on the stonework, when a neighbour, a middle-aged lady I sort of recognized but had never really spoken to, passed by and asked what I was doing, if I was making a movie or whatever. I explained I was looking at bugs and showed her the bristle millipedes. She excitedly said she liked bugs as well, cicadas and beetles and butterflies and such, and we mutually enthused for a few minutes. I guess talking to neighbours is sometimes worth it.

There is a PLAGUE of MILLIPEDES in Wellington.

They may also find themselves noting a second parallel - a parallel parallel, if I may so term it - in the far-from-abolitionist attitudes of the NZ and Pharaonic governments in the matter of slavery.
