  6. @OatPotato thanks for your reply.
Kured seems to be a good solution when I get tired of doing it manually for some time. Luckily I don’t have that many nodes. Yes, something like would be nice but does not seem to support it now

  7. @jpetazzo Thanks for your reply.
For now I went a manual uprade path as well. Using hetzner-k3s I install two shell scripts on the node.
One to run the upgrade and check if a reboot is needed for cordon.
2nd to run autoremove and mention uncordon if needed.
Next step would be to use Kured to automate.
Also, indeed, it would be nice if would support something like

  8. Today in "Fun with your homelab":

One of my openSUSE MicroOS machines was under heavy load for a week and I could not find out what was wrong. I noticed that SSH logins were no longer possible, the login hung after the "Last login ..." line. Non-interactive logins worked, though.

Today I found out that suddenly this machine requires "ssh -t" or the RequestTTY option to get a working SSH connection. Huh?

All other MicroOS machines are of course unaffected by this (SSH from the same laptop to those machines works without "-t"), otherwise life would not be interesting...

Debugging this and then checking where the high load comes from...

  15. I've managed to track this to [email protected] failing to start for some reason. Upon ssh, it starts properly.

Is this expected #systemd behavior? This sure doesn't look like it. I'm suspecting this is a #MicroOS issue.

  16. In recent times my Raspberry Pi server with #MicroOS has been behaving weirdly.

My server sometimes goes down and it seems it's because of an automated system restart according to the logs (when I have transactional-update disabled, so that shouldn't be happening).

When that happens, it takes a bit for me to ssh to it. It seems like my #podman #quadlets are not obeying #systemd enable-linger and starting on boot with WantedBy=default.target , because they only start after I ssh to it.

  17. @bryanredeagle I've not done any actual testing with it, but I wouldn't bet the farm that you're going to have a good experience using #ZFS with #MicroOS. I can say, at present, for the actual system, it won't work at all, as MicroOS is designed to use btrfs snapshotting as the core of it's "immutability" mechanism. Having ZFS storage pools mounted to MicroOS is certainly *possible* but I don't know how fragile the out-of-tree openZFS modules are, when it comes to updates…

  18. @jjba23 @rafa my hope is that #Agama + #Tumbleweed will provide the most similar experience/features while also being "mainstream" and "super easy" on the user. #MicroOS or #Silverblue might be even better choices...

  19. Back then i had an idea .. to make an atomic distro like or .
someone told me about and now I am using .

  20. @passthejoe because it's the default on whatever it is you're running? I think #distrobox is probably a better option for a desktop usecase, but #toolbx is perfectly cromulent for a server, where you're basically just using #microOS or #coreOS for a container host, it doesn't need to be fancy.

  22. @[email protected] on root to get / system rollback capabilities. on `/home`. `/home` rollback is based on backups to external storage.

  26. Presenting my #MAME demo machine for #RetroFest 2024!

This is an EPOS unit. It's a Partner Audrey A4-1-A with a Celeron J3455 (2.3 GHz Apollo Lake) and 4GB RAM. It's a surprisingly well stacked machine - 4x USB 3, 2x serial, 2x GbE, HDMI out, VGA out, and on-board sound. The touchscreen is bright and clear, too.

So, what have I done with it? I've installed #openSUSE #Kalpa, created an #ArchLinux container with #distrobox and installed MAME in the container. It's running four copies of MAME (the #Psion SIBO emulator) and it's barely breaking a sweat!

This is my first time properly trying out an immutable distro, and I've been pleasantly surprised. It's Just Worked. I don't need this machine perfectly fine-tuned. I just need something quick and stable as a base, and to be able to easily run the latest version of MAME.

  28. In other non-Psion projects, I really need to get on with rebuilding my home server.

I'm pretty settled on giving #FreeBSD a go for the first time (although I might revisit #microOS). The question is the hardware.

I've had a Gen8 #Microserver since new. The case size is perfect. It's had various mods: fan and controller, Ivy Bridge CPU, Noctua CPU cooler, PicoPSU. The PicoPSU has really improved power consumption over the stock PSU. Having an iLO is really handy, too.

    However, has its issues.

  33. Phew, I am pretty thankful for #aeondesktop based on #opensuse 's #microos and #tumbleweed .
A faulty update occured ( bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug ). That wasn't great, but because it uses #btrfs #snapshots for the #immutable os, I just changed back to a working snapshot and had a working #linux system again.
At first it didn't want to boot into the last working snapshot. But I found out in the forums, that you have to press "F8" while booting (after the #uefi was ready).
    Big thanks to @sysrich !

  34. What a journey, after almost whole life spent with #Debian (started with Potato) I had recently about year of experiments with atomic desktops (#Fedora #silverblue, #OpenSUSE #microos, #blendos, own setup of #alpinelinux with btrfs) I end up with having #nixos on my desktop. The learning curve will be maybe little bit steep, but challenge accepted. PS: special kudos to #redhat 5.x, this beast have taken me to #Linux path in mid late 90s

Please ping me!

  40. @kalpa @vwbusguy @Conan_Kudo

This part, I actually didn't know, as I'm a relative latecomer as a developer to this space (After Richard bolted #GNOME on top of #MicroOS), and wasn't particularly involved in the #Fedora world at all, so I haven't the foggiest what the early development of #AtomicDesktop looked like.
