@grabosch A treaty is only as good as its text (which may sound tautological, but sometimes we get treaties that establish a principle but leave booby traps in the text). Finding common ground across countries is difficult, and we even see pressure to water down the EU #mHRDD draft directive. I would prefer to press for more national #mHRDD legislation and use the best practice as the basis for a treaty later on.

The ITUC conference in Melbourne today is arguing for a global treaty on mandatory due diligence. A big ask, and I wonder whether a treaty could do more than establish general principles, but it shows that the international trade union movement, which is often marginalised in #BizHumanRghts #BizHR discussions at the UN, supports moves towards #mHRDD .
