@carkner @Anneheathen I started with TAZ and MBMBAM, then moved onto the Flop House and the Uxbridge-Shimoda family of podcasts. (A bit weird not to see them on my Maxfun show list any more). Anyway, yeah, what Anne said: support #MaximumFun during the #MaxFunDrive and, well, any time really - they are a little slice of good in the world.

I'll admit it, I listen to a lot of podcasts.
As a business landscape, podcasting (like all media landscapes, I suppose), is a bleak and hateful attention economy devaluing creators and busy hoisting itself on its own advertising petard.
BUT! there are bright spots, one being the #MaximumFun network, a worker-owned, listener supported co-op encompassing a lot of very good artist owned podcasts.

I haven't been keeping up in more recent years, so I just found out that one of my favorite podcasts ended a few weeks back. :blobfoxmeltsob: Apparently Oh No, Ross and Carrie! did their farewell episode on the 13th. I guess it was for mental health reasons which, like, heck yeah you take care of that mental health :meowdab:
But still. Maybe it's because I'm starting to get sick and therefore kinda emotional, but it's big sad. :meowsob: With the show going for 13 years it's weird to not have it as a constant in my life anymore.
Thank you @shydog for showing it to me heckin' forever ago. :blobfoxbongoterrified: It has brought me lots of joy over the years.

Zero chance it would not make it into series production from how well they pulled off that miniseries. We need to protect podcasting. It’s one of the last truly free and accessible forms of media.
A few years back I tried to start an indie #podcast festival, but the money wasn’t there. Some of the big independent networks have crumbled or at least wobbled since, though I’m very heartened to see #MaximumFun have gone fully artist co-op.
More and more the big commercial side of the industry is taking over: running the awards, buying up (and often closing down) third-party services, bringing paid subscriptions in-house at the big directories. Even the loudest voices in Podcasting 2.0 want to marry the whole thing to crypto, as though that somehow fixes the standard’s problems.
Like you would any other media, think about who’s making the podcasts you’re listening to, where the money comes from, and where it goes. Support your favourite indie podcasts and networks directly if you can.

Today is the last day of the #MaximumFun #funddrive. Maximum Fun is a podcast network with some of my favorite shows. I boosted my membership a few bucks since I love so many of their shows. AND now the network is becoming worker owned!
