A mouse study illustrates the effect of environmental temperature on obesity, diabetes, and liver disease. Lab mice are ordinarily housed at a thermoneutral temperature for humans (22 C) rather than for mice (30 C). Mice fed a western diet were more obese, and had greater activation of genes associated with inflammatory and fibrotic responses in the liver.
