  1. @ChrisMayLA6 I want to stay hopeful, but the signs look grim. The local journalists I used to know have all left. Some happily doing consumer journalism, but not news.
    .
In the 1990s, the Bradford Telegraph & Argus had 2 full-time council reporters. Even that was inadequate for the goings-on, but it's now history. With more powers, it'd be scary.

The #ManchesterMill is great, but v low budget. Few staff.

    Time for publicly-subsidised local journalism.

  2. @JugglingWithEggs Absolutely nothing in #AndyBurnham's career, speeches, or character suggests that he even has any desire to deliver real radical progressive change. Some fans of the dying #LabourParty project radicalism onto #Burnham, but it's pure projection. Andy is a Blairite, not a radical.

I think that #JoshiHerrmann's piece in the #ManchesterMill is very persuasive: manchestermill.co.uk/stop-look

  3. I don't give much weight to #TheNewsAgents. They seem strong on noise, but light on insight & analysis. Not quite empty vessels, but not far off.

But still, they offer an interesting glimpse into the extent of the media circus in #Makerfield, the imprecision of the polling, and the sheer scale of the political machines being deployed.

It all seems artificial. Joshi Herrmann's article 4 weeks ago in the #ManchesterMill still seems more insightful than noise from London: manchestermill.co.uk/stop-look

  4. This has been a sad week for watchers of the #Makerfield by-eiection.

The ReformUK candidate is a fkake. Other fash are eating his vote.

The neoliberal Andy #Burnham has been outed by the #ManchesterMill as a lightweight. The Conservatives are over. The Greens are beached.

So Burnham will win, and annoyingly delay the long-overdue death of #LINO.

But there is good news: the Count Binface Party is fielding a candidate, who turns out to be — surprise! — #CountBinface himself. ❤️

  5. Many thanks to Gerry Hassan for spotting this excellent article on #AndyBurnham by Joshi Herriman in The #ManchesterMill: manchestermill.co.uk/stop-look

Herrimam has massively reinforced my view that #Burnham is a brilliant metro Mayor, but would be a crap leader of the #LabourParty and a crap #PrimeMinister. It's the #PeterPrinciple: people who do a job well get promoted to a job that's beyond them.

  6. Great journalism as always from the #ManchesterMill. "You're in an Oasis cover band. What happens now?"
