Hi - Weird thought - I'm know nothing, so expect fumbles - but if one wanted to train a model (?) to interpret gestures (the Makaton sign language), how to begin?

Is there some distributed Internet machine learning thing like the old Folding-at-home project?

(I'd rather not touch any toxic big tech company in any way.)

Also, any learning resources would be cool!

    Pls boost.

  2. Spent a delightful day at Share Community, learning level one #Makaton.

After a few nervous moments, all my anxieties about trying to cram a new language into the addled loft space of my brain melted away.

So excited to be staring this journey.

My dyslexia always made learning language an ordeal. This puts me firmly back into the visual domain, where I feel less vulnerable!

  3. Makaton the "signing and communication system" aimed at people with learning disabilities and their families is stolen and misappropriated from British Sign Language (#BSL) and not even compatible. #Makaton Foundation charge for access to their signs and materials, making £1.5 million a year.

Not content with stealing BSL in the 70s and bastardising signs. Makaton are now trying to do the same to Deaf signing communities across the world.

  4. Ahead of sharing our next 'Makaton Sign of the Week' tomorrow, here are the golden rules you need to know when it comes to signing. Please ask any members of our team for a demonstration of any commonly used signs and they'll be pleased to help you!

  5. Frustrating the #asl, #bsl, #auslan, and even the newer #Makaton (as well as other English sign variants) don't have more commonality. I would love a simplified #esperanto like sign language that transcends borders (coexisting with, and complimenting traditional signing). I understand why things are the way they are, I don't have to like it though! Another thing on my to-do list for when I become Supreme Ruler of Earth!

  6. If I wanted to learn #NZSL, what is the best way to do it and is there any benefit over Makaton?
