  1. As part of our ongoing Animal World project, the children explored tiger stripes and discovered that patterns aren’t just decorative- they’re clever camouflage! Through observation, discussion and creative mark-making, the children learned how an animal’s pattern helps it to hide in its environment.

  2. National Storytelling Week reminds us that stories don’t only live in books 📚✨

With a light, a screen, and a little imagination, shadow puppets bring stories to life in a whole new way- through movement, voices, problem-solving and creativity. Children become the storytellers, the characters, and the directors all at once.
This is a great activity to try at home!

  5. This week’s Little Linguists Spanish phrase is 'uno, dos, tres, ¡ya!'
Meaning “1, 2, 3, go!”, we sing this together before the start of every song in our sessions, helping children build confidence, rhythm and familiarity with Spanish through music.

  6. 🧺 Try at Home! 🧦
Pegging up laundry (even tiny dolls' clothes!) is a wonderful way for children to help out at home.

This simple, practical task supports fine motor skills, hand strength, and hand-eye coordination, while also building confidence, independence, and a sense of responsibility. When children feel involved in real-life routines, they learn that their contributions matter.

  7. Our Little Linguists Spanish phrase of the week is Hola, '¿cómo estás?'
The children have been practising this friendly greeting throughout the day, learning how language helps us connect with others and express care for our friends.

  8. Our Little Linguists French phrase of the week is 'Ça va?'
Our younger children have been practising this as they greet each other in the mornings, learning to check in with friends and build confidence through everyday conversation.

  9. With many of our children returning this week after the Christmas break, we’re looking ahead with hope and purpose. A new year gives us time to pause, reflect, and recommit to what matters most- creating a safe, nurturing environment where every child feels secure, valued, and ready to grow. We’re excited for the year ahead and all the small moments that will help build strong foundations for the future.

  10. 🔥✨ Wishes, wonder & a little Forest School magic ✨🔥
Last week, our Forest School fire became something truly special. Each child carefully placed their pinecone into the flames, carrying a wish for the new year. As they burned, the different natural coatings transformed the fire into dancing colours – a beautiful reminder that every child’s hopes and ideas are unique.

  12. 🎄✨ Mrs Murphy’s Christmas Shortbread ✨🎄
A simple, festive recipe that’s perfect to try at home with your child over the Christmas holidays. 🧈🍪 Little hands will love helping to mix, roll, and shape the dough and, of course, tasting the results!

  13. Bring a little winter magic indoors by sprinkling flour to make ‘snow’ and using any vehicles you have to create snowy tracks! 🚜 A snow plough works brilliantly, but diggers, cars and trucks are just as fun. This simple activity supports fine motor skills, early mark-making and imaginative play, and it’s easy to tidy away too!

  14. Our preschoolers have been busy bringing the Christmas story to life 🎄✨
After being inspired by the beautiful knitted nativity in our reception area, the children decided to create their own version- using cardboard, tissue paper, imagination and a whole lot of teamwork.
We love seeing their ideas take shape in such creative ways!

  15. ✨ Try at Home Activity! ✨
Last week, our preschool children grated cheese and carrots to make their own tasty wraps- a simple, healthy lunch you could try out at home!
Top tip: Try using a small nutmeg grater- its size makes it much easier for children to handle safely and confidently.
Let them sprinkle, roll, and enjoy!

  18. ✨ Awe and wonder in action!
Messy play is where curiosity comes alive, and sometimes that means children end up wearing the learning as much as doing it!
This is why we always say: don’t send your child in anything you don’t want to get messy! 🎨

  19. Young children don’t need to know about the details of war- instead, we can help them connect with the ideas of remembering, caring, and saying thank you to people who help keep others safe.
Our visit to the Stone Recreation Ground Memorial, where the children laid their handmade poppy wreath, helped them connect with this idea- that remembering can be a peaceful, thoughtful act of gratitude. 💮

  21. In celebration of Black History Month, our little bakers explored the story behind Jamaican Ginger Cake- and how the ingredients travelled across oceans! 🌍💛
They stirred their way through sticky ginger, dark sugar and warm spices, learning how these flavours connect to Jamaica’s rich heritage and the journeys that brought them to kitchens all around the world.

  31. In early years, giving a child your full presence is more powerful than any toy or activity. When we truly listen, notice, and respond, children feel valued, understood, and safe to explore the world around them. 🌱

  41. Hapa Zome, meaning "leaf dye" in Japanese, is a printmaking technique where natural pigments from leaves and flowers are transferred onto fabric or paper by pounding them with a hammer or mallet. Simply sandwich some leaves or flowers between 2 pieces of fabric and bash with a hammer until enough pigment has been released to dye it!
