#MorphOS 3.19 Adventure day 2 on the #MacMiniG4
#Wayfarer updated to 9.0 and spent some time with understanding how to change desktop resolution, background etc. to 4:3 so I can easily switch between the mega65 and this on the Capture Card without different settings.
Being without the normal BSD/GNU tools makes computing a bit more complicated. And without a *nix filesystem structure I don't even know where to put the new browser :D

Been waiting for this day! The release of #MorphOS 3.19
Never really used MorphOS before. And I was never an #Amiga user either either (I left the #C64 for a 386).
Last year I've started exploring the "alternative universe" of #Commodore with the #Mega65. Now I will explore the #PowerPC Amiga Software on the #MacMiniG4.
Burned a CD and installed it. Quick and easy. Replaced my old "hacked" version of #MacOS9 that was installed on the unsupported #PPC #MacMini.

HTTPS including TLS 1.3 and SSH2. Configuring #Classilla with Crypto Ancienne (https://www.floodgap.com/software/classilla/carl.html) to work as HTTPS proxy.
And doing so with the use of #ssheven (https://github.com/cy384/ssheven) to ssh into a local server.
Now I have a #MacOS9 laptop to replace my #MacMIniG4 as my "Classic Mac" so the mini can do new adventures with #MorphOS. But first I will spend some time setting up MachTen.

Now after installing #MacOS9 on an #Apple #iBook G3 600MHz I did some benchmark against my #MacMiniG4 also running MacOS9 (via the ROM hacked image).
The #PowerPC G3 in this iBook surprisingly slow. I expected half of CPU performance, of the G4 not less than a third compared to the 1.2GHz #PPC G4 in the Mini. And it's rather close with the built in reference result of a #Powermac G3 300MHz.
The FPU benchmark looks better though...

Well I can call that a resounding victory. Dual booting Sorbet Leopard + Mac OS 9.22 on a #MacMiniG4
It was good for one reason: seeing long-hated Internet Explorer launch instantly and use 17 megabytes of RAM. Somewhere along the way we must have done something wrong.
Now onto the part where I install #Morphos. Something I never did. Hopefully the install will work from USB with same OpenFirmware commands.

Progress : thanks to open firmware I managed to boot the patched Mac OS 9.2 installer from USB.

@kiwa #MacOS9 on them is fantastic and on pair as the most highend as MacOS9 experience gets. And the amount of software for MacOS9 is huge and easy to get hold of via Macintoshgarden and MacintoshRepository.
Some of my posts in here is about the experience of MacOS9 on #MacMiniG4. I can recommend the journey of fiddling about with some nice old software and think about the 90's. I had some fantastic months of entertainment with it the last years.

More things I regret throwing away.
Another series of pictures of old computer stuff. Collected 2 old #Quadra950 from my father around 18 years ago but didn't have space for them later in life.
I combined the Quadras into one maxed out with RAM and explored #AUX . Had a great deal of problem getting an A/UX image back then.

En vistas de la mudanza a #Misiones, tengo que reorganizar mentalmente la infra.
No me quiero llevar el main-server, porque no deja de ser una PC con lo que eso consume. Me gustaría migrar todo lo posible a computación de bajo consumo usando dos o tres raspi y también la #macminig4
El problema está en que el storage del mainserver está ahí y no es fácil de mover. Son 4 discos mecánicos, 2 de 2TB y 2 de 4TB. No se enchufan así nomás a unas raspis...

Acabo de caer en la cuenta que la #MacMiniG4 de arquitectura #PowerPC cumplió este enero pasado sus 18 años.
Amo esta máquina. La tengo funcionando sin parar hace 4 años, corriendo #OpenBSD como server de eMule. Podría correr más cosas pero ya no me da el cuero para investigar.
Mí hermano la tenía como server de DNS. Al tener openbsd y encima ser powerpc sos medio inhackeable (?) -

Didn't get Crypto Ancienne to work via Power MachTen for some reason so I installed it on a Linux server instead (but feels a bit like cheating though). Browsing with TLS works fine now but I prefer #gopher.
No need for emulation when having a small and silent machine like this on the #desktop

Due to lack of other optical drives I needed to dig up the old #powerbook to burn the custom #MacOS9 CD.
For some reason #openfirmware didn't like the monitor or the resolution on the monitor so can't get the #MacMiniG4 to boot from a usb stick.

A few month ago I browsed macos9lives.com and found out that it was possible to boot #MacOS9 on a #MacMiniG4 with some custom hacks.
I became a #mac user with the release of #osxserver to replace my #linux and #freebsd workstations. So never really used the old #macos privately.
So i've rigged up my old Mini G4 1.25GHz on the desk together with my #macstudio to get going.
