@Chris Gioran 💔 I'm not convinced that a one-size-fits-all, universal alt-text/image description generator for memes that actually fits absolutely everyone is even possible.
On the one hand, you have people who want no more than 200 characters of alt-text, and who want that to be the only description of the image in the whole post.
On the other hand, especially on Mastodon, you have people who seem to demand full, detailed meme explanations, and who demand all information they need to understand an image to be in the same place as the image.
So if a meme is based on a snowclone template that originated on 4chan, this would mean a detailed explanation of the meme template itself. And the source material because it can't be expected to be known to everyone. Plus an explanation what a snowclone is. Plus an explanation what 4chan is. Including an explanation what image boards are. And then an explanation what this specific adaptation of the meme template means.
This isn't possible in 200 characters or fewer.

#computers hmm, it was only today I saw a #longtext rant and #image over #longtext on strlen restrictions and I was wandering wtf... But I see now people are actually posting txt in image instead of longthreading and linking to their blogs instead of alt and hmm... life finds a way I guess

Hi all. @MikeInTheGarden likes to write the occasional long post on Facebook. As Mastodon servers have a typical character limit of 500 chars, he'll need to use an external site to host the content in order to post here. What's everyone's favourite method for sharing #LongText that's not code? #Pastebin springs to mind. What else would you recommend?
