A remarkable outcome for a large group of local Colorado activists last night. In Longmont, a Denver suburb northeast of Boulder, more than 50 people testified last night to city council (and more than 90 people came to the council meeting) about their pending renewal of a contract with Flock, the ALPR company that has been under fire for its surveillance capitalism. DeFlock Longmont, the group that organized the public comment scrum, won a victory when city council voted not to renew the contract at the end of the hours-long meeting.

Public comment was at times serious and other times silly, but unanimous in opposition to the city renewing their contract. Public safety officials, including the chief of Longmont Police, testified after the public comment period that the Flock cameras had been instrumental in stopping a number of dangerous incidents and arresting people who committed violent crimes.

"Join the Library and various community organizations to learn about and explore gardening in Colorado.

"The Longmont Public Library is excited to announce its highly anticipated 4th Annual Gardening Fair, set to take place from 1-4 pm on Sunday, Feb. 23 in the Longmont Library Meeting Rooms, 409 4th Ave. Free seed packets will be available! Community members can kickstart their spring planting endeavors by choosing up to six seed packets for free. The Free Seed Library continue upstairs near the Reference Desk after the Fair.

"The Gardening Fair will be a wonderful time to connect with local organizations and businesses to learn more about gardening, ask questions, and start planning your gardening season.

"With a huge thank you to the Friends of the Longmont Library for their donations and support, all attendees will be able to start their home garden at with information to help make gardening a great success this season.

"The #FreeSeedLibrary is a community-driven initiative allowing individuals to access a wide variety of free vegetable, herb, and flower seed packets."

"La Biblioteca Pública de Longmont se complace en anunciar su tan esperada 4.ª Feria Anual de Jardinería, que marcará la apertura oficial de la Biblioteca de Semillas Gratuitas 2025, brindando a los miembros de la comunidad la oportunidad de comenzar su temporada de siembra de primavera al elegir hasta seis paquetes de semillas de manera gratuita.

"La Feria de Jardinería será una excelente oportunidad para conectarse con organizaciones y negocios locales, aprender más sobre jardinería, resolver dudas y planificar su temporada de jardinería de 2025.

"Agradecemos profundamente a los Amigos de la Biblioteca de Longmont por su apoyo, ya que todos los asistentes podrán comenzar su jardín en casa con la información necesaria para una temporada exitosa.
