Rolled the releases for GNOME 50 today (a bit early, but I'll be busy all day tomorrow):
Maps 50.0
libshumate 1.6.0and also a (small) bugfix 49.5 on the (old) stable branch.
Didn't yet do a write-up about the new stuff, guess that'll have to be done sometime soonish, too… 😎

Just rolled beta releases of Maps and libshumate (50.beta and 1.6.beta) for the upcoming GNOME 50 release, and also stable releases (49.4, 48.9, and 1.5.3, 1.4.1 respectively) before traveling to Brussels for FOSDEM tommorow evening.
One improvement in 50.beta consists of showing more text from the article extract from Wikipedia in “desktop mode” when there is more space.

Just tagged Maps 50.alpha and libshumate 1.6.alpha for GNOME 50:
Containing, among others, the new sidebar redesign, public transit journey redesign, using Transitous for all public transit routingm, and porting of UI templates to Blueprint for Maps.
And for libshumate the option to compile without the vector renderer has been removed, the vector renderer has gained support for "global-state" expressions.

Tarballs are now out for GNOME 49 beta release for Maps and libshumate.
Among the new stuff for Maps:
It now shows the localized highways shields (when definitions are available) in the place details for road labelsThe POI search interface has an option for searching for vegan/vegetarian restaurants (this was an old proposal I got IRL at GUADEC 2023, but kinda forgot).
And in libshumate it is now possible to (non-center) align map markers.
-
I forgot about the tarballs for the GNOME 49.alpha pre-release this Saturday…
But now they are out for Maps 49.alpha and libshumate 1.5.alpha anyway 😎#gnomemaps #libshumate #Gnome #mapstondon #openstreetmap #gnome49

Playing a bit with trying to implement indoor mapping support in libshumate (and ultimatly in Maps):
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libshumate/-/tree/wip/mlundblad/indoor-levels
So far, one can manually edit a hard-coded value (in shumate/shumate-vector-renderer.c) and run the libshumate demo app, selecting the "OSM Liberty" map source alternative.
So, don't expect anything mature soon… 😄

Just rolled the stable releases for GNOME 48
GNOME Maps 48: https://download.gnome.org/sources/gnome-maps/48/
libshumate 1.4.0: https://download.gnome.org/sources/libshumate/1.4/And also 47.5 for Maps with a cherry-pick for the update to use Transitous for public transit routing in Finland (due to Digitransit sunsetting the old OpenTripPlanner 1.x API in April).
And now rest and fika for the rest of the day 😀

Just released the RCs of Maps and libshumate before the GNOME 48 release.
https://download.gnome.org/sources/gnome-maps/48/
https://download.gnome.org/sources/libshumate/1.4/And also, the reason the Maps tarball is much smaller now is because the appdata screenshots are now hosted on static.gnome.org.

Latest alpha release of Maps (including new refinements for GNOME 48) 48.alpha2, and the stable release 47.3.
New releases of libshumate 1.4.alpha, and stable bug fix release 1.3.1.
These releases where the first for Maps and libshumate making use of the new GitLab CI-based tarball release artifact templates -
Just released stable versions of Maps and libshumate for GNOME 47
gnome-maps 47.0 https://download.gnome.org/sources/gnome-maps/47/
libshumate 1.3.0 https://download.gnome.org/sources/libshumate/1.3/Also, this means there are now stable branches "gnome-47" and "libshumate-1-3", and main in both projects are now open for new stuff!
The Flatpak build of Maps should hopefully follow soonish.

Just rolled the alpha releases for #gnomemaps and #libshumate for the upcoming #GNOME 47 release, versions 47.alpha, and 1.3.alpha respectively.
Was quite a substansial changelog this time 💫
-
Just released #GnomeMaps 46.10 (which should really have been 46.1, but I made a typo in the app metadata for 46.0 where it said 46.9, so to avoid potential problems with upgrades it will be 46.10).
and #libshumate 1.2.1 and 1.1.4 stable releases with bugfixes (a null reference check fix, and fixed compiling with a C++ compiler for the 1.2.x branch (and in main))
-
Just released #GNOME Maps 46.0 and #libshumate 1.2.0 🎉️
Also, the Maps repo just turned 4k commit 😎️

This weekend was not only #vasaloppet we also rolled the release candidate releases on #GNOME Maps 46 and #libshumate 1.2 containing, among other things @flyingpimonster's latest performance improvements to the client-side vector renderer (we later discovered a regression, so there is now a libshumate 1.2.rc2 😎️)

The @flyingpimonster is perhaps one of the greatest nerd-snipers of all time, because he somehow successfully baited me into spending 3 hours testing & fixing zoom scrolling in #libshumate for all of you #GNOMEMaps users using smooth-scrolling mice in #GNOME.
Having tested with four rodents at once, plus a touchpad and a touchscreen, I can now attest to the neko-proofness of this code 😼️ https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libshumate/-/merge_requests/228
-
@flyingpimonster I also added labels "Map style", "Map style (light)", and "Map style (dark)" for issues in the Maps GitLab project to tag issues related to the map style (and for issues specific to the light and dark variant).
Note that some things (like e.g. label placement would belong in #libshumate)

PA: The vector renderer is now built by default in git main (for the upcoming #libshumate 1.2 release).
If your project e.g. builds a Flatpak with a bundled libshumate build and you only need the raster renderer, you will now need to explicitly set -Dvector_renderer=false in Meson.
-
Have been playing a bit with additions to our new vector map style (to eventually be used in Maps) adding rendering of ferry lines:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/jwestman/map-style/-/merge_requests/27
-
PA: Support for building against the libsoup 2.x API has been removed from libshumate for the next release (1.2).
If your project bundles a build of libshumate and still need to use libsoup 2, make sure you build from a stable 1.1.0 (and later bug fix releases when available) tarball.
And if your project is already using libsoup 3, make sure to stop explicitly setting -Dlibsoup3=true in e.g. your Flatpak manifest if it's still set. As this option has now been removed…
-
Just release #GNOME Maps 45.0 and #libshumate 1.1.0
Also, the main branches on both projects are now open for merging new functionally, as stable gnome-45 and libshumate-1-1 has been branched-off
-
Just rolled a beta release of #libshumate (1.1.beta) containing the latests vector rendering improvements preparing for the upcoming 1.1.0 release that we will release with the @GNOME 45 release: https://download.gnome.org/sources/libshumate/1.1/

I just "finished" rewriting the 'ShumatePathLayer' and 'ShumateMarker' objects from the GNOME Shumate library (map data provider) to fit my needs better.
This was necessary because the PathLayer has some disadvantages for my specific needs. I think due to these complete new objects I have much more possibilities to visualize stuff directly on the map.
It took me really long to understand how to do this but I think I learned a lot! -
#PicPlanner: What do you think about my first rudimentary version of the offline location search? In my opinion this should be enough for now especially because programming the search function was much more complicated to realize then expected and the online search seems even more complicated.
In the video you can see the current state of the app 😊#linux #gtk4 #gnome #programming #libadwaita #libgweather #libshumate #photography
