[article also contains news of #Cuba #solidarity actions in the #US]PHOENIX, Arizona — As baseball fans around the world geared up for the Sixth #WorldBaseballClassic eight members of the Cuban team, along with their pitching coach and other support personnel, were denied visas to come to the United States. As a result, just 11 players were left to face a roster of 37 from the Kansas City Royals on March 3, 2026, and 33 from the Cincinnati Reds the following day.
The visa denials were a blow not just to the Cuban team, which was forced to play at a considerable competitive disadvantage; this was a blow to #baseball fans across the board. And it ran counter to the goodwill of #MajorLeagueBaseball and the organizers of the Classic, which draws together talent from around the globe.

Cuba is once again exceeding expectations in the #WorldBaseballClassic. The Cuban team is one victory away from reaching the quarterfinals. It was unclear a few months ago whether Cuba would even play in the WBC. Not because of #baseball — but because of #US policy.
“We were aware that there could be denials due to the US aggressive policy toward Cuba,” said the president of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation. In the end, the players were granted the visas, but eight Cuban staff, including a scout and a pitching coach, were denied visas.
The #Trump administration last year blocked visas for some 100 Cuban athletes and #sports officials.

Washington, 11 nov (Prensa Latina) El Comité Manos fuera de Cuba, de #LosÁngeles, lanzó una campaña instando al Gobierno de #EstadosUnidos que otorgue las visas para la participación de los deportistas cubanos en los #JuegosOlímpicos de 2028.
La campaña titulada Permitan que los atletas cubanos compitan en los Juegos Olímpicos de 2028, advierte que la política actual del Gobierno de Donald #Trump es impedir que los equipos y atletas cubanos participen en los eventos clasificatorios para la cita multideportiva que tendrá lugar aquí a la vuelta de poco menos de tres años.

A new campaign by the Los Angeles-based #US Hands Off Cuba Committee is demanding that Cubans be allowed to compete in the 2028 #Olympics in Los Angeles.
The US Embassy in Havana, under #MarcoRubio’s State Department, has refused to issue visas for numerous Cuban athletes and coaches, which has stopped them from competing in pre-Olympic qualifying events. The policy punishes #athletes for political reasons and violates the Olympic Charter, which prohibits discrimination of any kind.
Activists across the US are calling on the International Olympic Committee to force Washington to issue visas so Cuban athletes can compete, and to uphold the Olympic spirit of inclusion, fair play, and global friendship.
