Well--this week's #Monsterdon sent me down a fascinating rabbit hole because #LesBaxter was in the credits for the movie's music. Now, I recognized that name as an A-lister because that's what he was as a band leader in the "big band" era. What was he doing in this movie? So I looked up his biography and even found a lesbaxter.com website, which was amazing.
I initially figured him to be a conductor, who played the piano, but DAMN! Saxophonist and a theremin player too...and NOW I wanna get my mitts on his album, "Music Out of the Moon". That's the skill which got him connected to horror movies, not the least of which is "The Pit and the Pendulum". Hot diggety!
Theremin fans, if you haven't checked out the works of Les Baxter, then put your asses in gear yesterday--you're missing out. He also does Moog synth.

Musical Interlude: OK, here's something a bit goofy but different. Les Baxter was an American composer who did a lot of film soundtracks but also was a pioneer of the "exotica" movement. He composed a suite called "The Passions" with vocalizations by trained cantor Bas Sheva, that was a huge dud in its time but today is recognized as avant-garde and different, if not 100% successful. Here's a sample track from the suite...
