  1. I know it's officially "too soon", but doing it anyway like the freak I am.

#WatchingNow to kick off #Hooptober13, Jonathan Miller's Whistle and I'll Come to You (1968).

  2. You know those William Castle movies where they dropped a skeleton from the movie theatre's ceiling for some extra tingles?

    💀💀💀

Just like that, #Hooptober13 drops at 03:26 CET in the AM! The official date is August 26, but – because I don't know where El Cinemonster is located – it may be on the 27th for us Euroghouls.

    Let it begin! Emergo!

  3. Hooptober proceeds apace.

My favorite was "Viy", a charming, fantastical Russian folktale from 1967.

"The Sentinel" has its moments, but Michael Winner is no Fulci.

"Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde"' is a film whose ambitions exceed its grasp, but was a thought-provoking watch. It was clearly made by someone who loved and understood Universal monster movies and was attempting to communicate something about the African-American experience through that frame.

  4. Focusing on the subtitled movies in my #Hooptober list tonight since I have some brain energy!

First up is a movie filmed in Georgia (the country), set in Albania, Zana.

  5. Haven't done #LastFourWatched in quite awhile, and it's a bit late, too, but wanted to get back to it.

Mostly our latest watches are #Hooptober picks. We're having a lot of fun with it.

Saw "The Witch" on a big screen outdoors at a local bar, really enjoyed getting the opportunity to do that.

  7. An enchanting little piece of supernatural horror buoyed by the effortless charm of its lead star. My ★★★½ review of Bulbbul (2020) on Letterboxd: boxd.it/7GoPM3 #Hooptober #Bulbbul #Horror #Letterboxd

  8. Yeah, this just ended up being a bit of a slog for me. My ★★½ review of Cyclone (1978) on Letterboxd: boxd.it/7EuFll #Hooptober #Cyclone #Horror #Letterboxd

  9. Far from the best Italian demonic horror film I've seen and laughably bad dubbing, but it has its goopy charms. My ★★★ review of The Church (1989) on Letterboxd: boxd.it/7C2lat #Hooptober #TheChurch #Horror #Letterboxd

  10. A brilliant mix of exploitation body horror and prestige thriller, and one of 2024's top two movies to date. My ★★★★½ review of The Substance (2024) on Letterboxd: boxd.it/7AWn8X #TheSubstance #Hooptober #Horror #Letterboxd

  11. A charming, straightforward haunted house/possession horror film with shades of Sam Raimi and Ju-On. Ain't nothing wrong with that. My ★★★½ review of Bhoot (2003) on Letterboxd: boxd.it/7A4kOX #Hooptober #Bhoot #Horror #Letterboxd

  12. CW: Blood, Crucifixion

Not my "favorite" of the New French Extremity-adjacent films, but still worth the watch. My ★★★½ review of Calvaire (2004) on Letterboxd: boxd.it/7zrtr1 #Hooptober #Calvaire #Horror #Letterboxd

  13. It's a credit to the cast and director that this absolute pit trap of a concept managed to avoid being the worst thing ever and turned out...actually pretty good. My ★★★½ review of Angel (1984) on Letterboxd: boxd.it/7yWhz1 #Hooptober #Angel #Letterboxd
