EN: I simply cannot understand why our elected politicians would choose to be present on the undemocratic platform X. They are helping to support Musk and his extreme worldview. And it is incomprehensible that they support the US Big Tech instead of EU Tech.

Uncoordinated but the Irish Greens, Social Democrats and Labour (well the party haven't tweeted since January and most of the TD have left the platform) parties have left X.

Onze partij zit vol met geweldige nerds (zie bijv. https://www.politici-op-mastodon.nl/) die bijna allemaal onderschrijven: als je het systeem wil veranderen, moet je zelf willen veranderen. Tijd dat we ons hierbij aansluiten.
X is de betonrot van ons internet. Het manipuleert het debat en verkiezingen. X treedt niet op tegen racisme, seksisme en bedreigingen, en het laat haar eigen chatbot mensen (zelfs kinderen) zonder instemming uitkleden.

I've booked almost the entirety of June off work. Planning to use some of my free time to tour Saskatoon #yxe and talk with as many politicians and organizations as I can about their social media strategies. See if I can bring em to the Fediverse in the spirit of @ElbowsUpforDigitalSovereignty
Planning starts the second Legislature lets out mid May.

We are really glad to see @openpetition here. They were our choice to host the petition for the #LeaveX, in January 2025.
We tried to host our letter (https://leavex.eu/letter) at the official petition website of the @EUCommission , but it was refused. We considered @campact as well, but they seem too focused on their own bubble, while Open Petition more international.
The more organized civil society becomes active on the #Fediverse, the better.

I had the opportunity to tell the founders of the Sovereign Tech Agency (@sovtechfund) that I'm a big fan of their organization. I firmly believe that other countries should have similar initiatives. In fact, the EU should have one too.
Their recent €600k+ grant to Mastodon is a great example of what public investment in open digital infrastructure can look like. It strengthens the Fediverse, a real alternative to X. As I’ve argued in the #LeaveX campaign: we already have a viable social media alternative to X (1) and what we lack is sustained funding and political commitment. (2)
Thus, if more EU countries invested in improving Mastodon, how quickly could it become Europe’s de facto public square?
While most European politicians still prefer X for their official communication, reducing technical barriers could attract a more diverse audience, including the people our representatives want to reach, like journalists and the general public.
By the way, it's interesting, though not surprising, that the Sovereign Tech Agency has almost four times as many followers on Mastodon as on Bluesky. It would be great to see them highlighting posts and profiles of some awesome open-source projects active on the Fediverse. 😉
