Thursday driving rolls around so quickly every week it's starting to feel like every day of my life is in fact a Thursday!
Today I drove my first ever test route, and it actually went ok. Getting a lot more confident with changing lanes on fast roads, and I learned what a police speed camera van looks like 😆
Also stalled for the very first time, inexplicably. And then two minutes later, stalled for the second time too. No idea 🤷♀️
Still I'm very proud of myself today! Yay!

We lost Kath's favourite ball in some long grass, so had to do the rounds of all the area pet shops until we found an exact replacement.
That was today's #learnerDriver practise and let me tell you, busy car parks in the rain are not the place for me yet! Ended up unable to reverse out of our parking spot and had to make Dave do it instead.
Humiliating, but at least not dangerous. And at least we did find a new ball 😅

For today's driving practise I felt confident enough to drive us out to the coast and back.
The planned route turned out to be a bit more above my skill level than we thought! Some good experience of meeting situations and pedestrians being all over the place, plus my first narrow hump bridge, but I won't be rushing to do that route again.
I need a cuppa 🫖

Back to #parkrun this week although if I'm honest it was about 50/50 parkrun/parkwalk for me because I'm a mess in this heat (like, 10 degrees). We tried the new route at Albert Park, definitely an improvement over the previous hazardous tree root situation.
Also, I drove us there! All the way! From reversing off our drive, to somehow ending up successfully parked in a bay in Middlesbrough! 💪
Now we have to walk the dog, who was such a good girl while we abandoned her to go running. Definitely getting my steps in today...

Guess who passed her theory test today! 🎉
One step closer to the ultimate nightmare of me being allowed to drive on the same roads as you.

Driving instructor is on holiday so we've been out practising in our own car during my usual lesson slot.
Drove past @davetansley's sister-in-law and he's genetically incapable of not waving at a family member so I have now officially been perceived.
On the bright side I don't think I made any obvious mistakes while she was looking 🤷♀️

This morning I drove us to the leisure centre in another town to go swimming, and parked in a bay in the car park.
Then when we got back we went to some supermarket car parks and practised more bay parking there which was pretty successful.
I appreciate these are small things, but every milestone is exciting and worth celebrating to me right now so 🎉

Up early for driving practise while it was quiet on the big roads. Found myself changing gear while at the same time checking mirrors to move over, and still properly taking in what I saw.
This is a small thing, but it's the first hint of the ridiculous amount of multitasking actually starting to feel doable 💪

Hands off, yarn vultures! I am alive 😎
(it was a bit of a disaster in places, but not a fatal one, all's well that ends well)

Driving lesson day again already, somehow.
If it goes to plan I'll be driving on fast dual carriageways and generally much busier roads.
So if I die out there today, please let it be known that my good yarns and cross stitch fabrics should be distributed fairly among any fedi friends who want them, and Bernadette the Emotional Support Chicken goes to @crafting_potato.
Thank you.

Last time I tried to quote something from micro.blog it didn't work for almost an hour, so let's see if that was a one-off or not...
Science! 👩🔬
(actual blog post is at https://thegiddystitcher.com/2026/03/20/fibre-crafts-made-me-do/ if this doesn't work)

Driving lesson the fourth.
A dramatic start, as someone fell and needed medical attention on the side of the road, but luckily my instructor knows first aid!
Spent all morning sick with nerves but it went ok really. Even got up to 50mph on a Big Scary Road!*
Next week he wants me properly on the dual carriageway though, idk about that 😬
* for like three seconds, while making a high pitched "eeeee" noise the whole time

Third driving lesson down. We had to travel quite far today because my town literally doesn't have a single roundabout to practise, or a safe place to learn emergency stops.
So I've gone from terrifying public roads on the first lesson, to newbie-friendly industrial estate on the third.
But when did I ever do anything in the normal way? 🤷♀️

Second lesson done! Getting slightly better at mirrors, still a coward with the gears though and very unable to steer round corners if I'm doing a gear change at the same time 😅
On the bright side he says I've got good coordination and I choose to believe it wasn't sarcastic.

Just survived my first driving lesson since the handful I had with a terrible instructor back in 2017. Very stressed, very sweaty, but no major incidents.
Please clap.
