De hecho, antes de fundar su iglesia, se ganaba la vida tocando el calíope y el órgano en carnavales y clubes de burlesque. Para él, la música era una herramienta de manipulación emocional: utilizaba frecuencias y ritmos específicos para influir en el estado de ánimo de su audiencia, una técnica que luego aplicó a sus rituales. Según él, la música moderna era "ruido", prefiriendo siempre las melodías clásicas o los estándares de los años 30 que apelaban a una estructura mental más ordenada.
