Spotted on approach to Portland #KPDX: brand new green #UnpaintedAirplane 737 MAX9 on its first flight, flying as BOE972. The pre-painted rudder and ADS-B telemetry indicated the customer for this plane is United Airlines. The manufacturer-temporary registration N4022H is visible. ADS-B data indicated it will be painted N37472. After landing it taxied to the Boeing Portland Paint Hangar. #PicklePlane #aviation #business #travel #avgeek

Trying to figure out what's going on with a flight diverting to PDX. @JetTip alerted on American 1355, an Airbus A321neo scheduled Dallas #KDFW - Anchorage #PANC, diverting to Portland #KPDX. After flying around some thunderstorms in Colorado, it changed to diverting to Portland, and descended to 12,000ft. In a depressurization, they'd go to 10,000ft. Here are pictures of Boeing 777-9 prototype #2 N779XX flying as BOE002 on its second pass by PDX on a test flight today, doing a touch & go. I'm guessing this probably had an FAA inspector/pilot at the controls due to the late stage of type certification flight testing in progress. This time there was no way for @JetTip to alert me because its flight plan is BFI-BFI. We had a surprise visit in Portland from Boeing 777-9 prototype #2 N779XX flying as BOE002 (radio callsign "Boeing Zero Zero Two Heavy"). It did a missed approach and then came back for a touch and go, both on Runway 28R. Pics from the first pass here, second pass next post. After a shift in winds, visibility improved at Medford #KMFR, Oregon and Allegiant 62 finished its route from PDX-MFR with one go-around and then a safe landing. Portland #KPDX seems to be the Pacific Northwest's universal flight diversion safe spot lately. Yesterday when thunderstorms popped up in Seattle #KSEA briefly blocking the final approach course, 8 flights diverted to PDX, as well as smaller numbers to Spokane, Bellingham and Pasco. Today, forest fire smoke has dropped Medford #KMFR to IFR conditions. Interesting diversion back to PDX by brand-new Horizon E175 (regional jet) N670QX. The plane did its delivery ferry flight from the Embraer factory in São Paulo, Brazil to Horizon's maintenance base at PDX on Friday. It started revenue flights Tuesday. Today when @JetTip alerted me to the diversion, the tail number looked familiar. Since it's scheduled to retry the flight to Billings MT (BIL), it wasn't a maintenance issue, at least nothing big. Also seen today: there are always plenty of Alaska 737s at PDX since it's an Alaska hub. In this view, the nearest plane is a 737-800 taxiing for takeoff. Behind it is a 737 MAX9 taking off on Runway 28L. BOE446 did eventually make it to Portland today, after repairs at BFI for whatever malfunction caused the Boeing test pilots to divert 2 days ago on the plane's first flight out of the Renton factory. It will be painted with registration C-GYYS and WestJet🇨🇦 livery. Other avgeeks looked up this 737 MAX8 is line number LN9714.
