  1. Portland International KPDX → Seattle–Tacoma International KSEA

A scenic route past the famous and jaw-dropping Mount St. Helens, all while keeping the equally legendary Mt. Rainier constantly in sight.

Time flew by way too fast, because the Lancair Evolution seems to be all about one thing: covering ground quickly.

  11. "PDX opens shiny new baggage claim escalators as major renovation continues" by The Oregonian @OregonLive - Terminal construction projects are continuing to reach completion through the year at Portland Int'l Airport. South-side escalators down to baggage claim from the new exit at Concourses B/C (Alaska, American, Frontier, Hawaiian & JetBlue) are open. The north-side escalators are scheduled to open in June. oregonlive.com/travel/2026/05/ #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  12. Another one? Already? A brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner landed in Portland #KPDX from the 787 factory in Charleston #KCHS, as BOE758. Other avgeeks figured out this mostly-white plane, except flower petals on the tail, is LN1303 for China Airlines (Taiwan). Since both bays of the Boeing PDX Paint Hangar are full, also 787-9s, it may have been ferried for paint early because Boeing's parking ramp is full at CHS but not at PDX. LN1303 had its first flight April 30. #aviation #travel #avgeek

  13. @ptld2_dot_btg There isn't an official spot. I got the IcelandAir takeoff from the short-term garage. Planespotters are accepted in the parking structures - just keep it obvious to the cameras that you're interested in the planes and not the parked cars. I've been collecting and updating advice for planespotting at PDX on my github[.]io site for the past year. There are 9 locations I recommend. You undoubtedly already know some. ikluft.github.io/avgeek/pdx-pl #aviation #avgeek #KPDX #Portland

  14. Video of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner landing at Portland #KPDX on Runway 28L, as flight number BOE014. This plane was made for LOT Polish Airlines but for some reason wasn't delivered. Lufthansa has bought the plane. Boeing flew it from parking at SKF to PDX. The propeller sound on landing is from the Ram Air Turbine (RAT), which the Boeing test pilots deployed during flight, checking all the systems. It will be repainted for Lufthansa in the Boeing Portland Paint Hangar. #aviation #travel #avgeek

  15. 4 weeks ago I got video of the arrival of another NTU (not taken up) 787-9 arriving in Portland for repainting for Lufthansa. That had been made for AirEuropa but not delivered. The propeller sound indicates the Boeing test pilots deployed the RAT (ram air turbine) as part of their flight tests. We could see similar today with BOE014. NTUs seem to spend 6-12 weeks here, much longer than just painting. avgeek.social/@ikluft/11634871 #aviation #travel #avgeek #KPDX #PNW

  16. Arrival time estimates on Boeing test flights should be taken as variable. The original JetTip alert I got said 15:21 ETA. FlightAware is currently showing 14:20. But the flight plan includes test maneuvers over eastern Washington State before coming to PDX. So the later time is probably closer to correct. But they are trying to put a plane that has been mothballed for 2 years through the flight test checklist. It'll take what it takes. Fuel on board is the only schedule. #aviation #avgeek #KPDX

  17. #Avgeek alert for Portland, Oregon: BOE014 B789 in flight from San Antonio Kelly Field #KSKF to Portland #KPDX. (Thx @JetTip .) ETA 15:20 PDT (*). Avgeek forum info says the temporary registration N879CJ is an ex-LOT (Poland) order which was not taken up (NTU), now acquired by Lufthansa. It's coming to PDX to be repainted. The other bay in Boeing's PDX paint hangar also has a Lufthansa B789. This plane has not flown in 2 years waiting for a buyer. flightaware.com/live/flight/BO #aviation #travel #PNW

  18. "‘Hurricane Hunter’ crew spent 6 weeks at PDX, studying atmospheric rivers" by Oregon Public Broadcasting OPB (PBS Portland) - Results from #NOAA 6-week deployment to Portland #KPDX from Feb 1 to Mar 15 of Hurricane Hunter Gulfstream IV jet "Gonzo" #N49RF is already showing scientific results. New insights to structures of storms is expected to help improve forecasts of #AtmosphericRiver events. opb.org/article/2026/04/19/pdx #aviation #avgeek #weather #PNW

  19. I got ~6mi/10km distant pictures of #UnpaintedAirplane Boeing 737 MAX8 N839AK as BOE866 on downwind leg of its approach to Runway 10R at Portland Int'l Airport #KPDX. This is a brand new plane on its "B1" flight (first flight of the airframe flown by Boeing test pilots) out of the factory in Renton #KRNT. The pre-painted rudder shows this plane will go to Alaska Airlines. I had not previously seen any Alaska planes coming to PDX for paint. #PicklePlane #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  20. Planespotting from home: IcelandAir A321LR (neo) descending out of the cloud base leaves visible condensation in the vortices behind the outer edges of its flaps. Conditions have to be just right for the condensation to be visible. This effect disappeared as relative humidity decreased slightly as it descended farther below the clouds. #KPDX #weather #aviation #avgeek #travel #PNW

  21. Planespotting from home, what a difference the #weather makes: British Airways 787 Dreamliners approaching PDX in different weather. 787-10 on a sunny☀️ day Wednesday (4 days ago) and 787-8 on a rainy🌧 day today. I'd guess the rain is more like home for the Brits, right? #KPDX #aviation #avgeek #travel #PNW

  22. #avgeek musings: with the #Alaska787 hangar lease at PDX approved and groundbreaking expected this summer, avgeeks will have to watch how the timing unfolds for two events both possible around late Summer to Fall: completion of the PDX hangar and delivery of Alaska's next Boeing 787-9 line number 1340. If the hangar & maintenance facility is done first, it becomes possible the 787 delivery flight would be to #KPDX. Currently Alaska does fleet induction at #KLAX. #aviation #business #avgeek #PNW

  27. "Port approves lease for major Alaska Airlines maintenance hangar at PDX" - press release from Port of Portland (Oregon): lease approved for Alaska Airlines to build its widebody airliner maintenance operations hangar at Portland International Airport PDX. Groundbreaking and construction expected this summer. This will be Alaska's first hangar on the mainland big enough for A330s & 787s from Hawaiian Airlines acquisition. portofportland.com/Newsroom/po #Alaska787 #KPDX #aviation #business #avgeek #PNW

  28. Spotted departing PDX today: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner now in Lufthansa livery after a visit to the Boeing Portland Paint Hangar, flying as BOE845. This is line number 1011, among a bunch that some avgeeks have been tracking from a canceled Norwegian order which were all snapped up by Lufthansa to get ahead of 787 factory production timelines. By the time I noticed it was moving, it had lifted off, leaving me a few seconds to grab the camera. #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek #business #PNW

  29. Spotted at PDX this morning: green #UnpaintedAirplane Boeing 777-200LR freighter on its first flight out of the Everett PAE factory, seen here approaching Portland Int'l Airport PDX for painting. The rudder was not pre-painted, eliminating one hint which airline it will go to. ADS-B telemetry indicated this plane is for a customer in UAE. When combined with the list of current 777F orders, that narrows it down to Emirates SkyCargo. #PicklePlane #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  30. Portland Int'l Airport PDX is updating its long-range plans as most large airports do periodically. Port of Portland will hold open houses in April to present the #PDX2045 master plan update.

  31. Alaska 703 N283AK SEA-BUR diverted and landed safely at PDX. Fire Dept was standing by for a reported HVAC malfunction on the aircraft. I got a picture of it on final approach. ADS-B showed it taxied to a gate. #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek

  32. This Pilatus PC-12 turboprop N21AU landing at Portland #KPDX would probably go mostly unnoticed... except for its radio callsign Boeing 21AU. This is a crew transport coming to pick up the test pilots from Boeing 508. It will take them back to Boeing Field #KBFI in Seattle where the flight test base is located. Either this plane or a Cessna 208 that Boeing flies for similar purpose shows up when planes are entering or exiting the PDX paint hangar. #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  33. Spotted at PDX this afternoon: green #UnpaintedAirplane #PicklePlane Boeing 737 MAX8 on its first flight out of the Renton factory, arriving at Portland #KPDX as Boeing 508 for painting at the Boeing paint hangar. The pre-painted rudder indicates this plane will go to American Airlines. And ADS-B telemetry also indicated AAL. #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  34. Spotted at PDX today: Boeing 737 MAX10 prototype #2 N27752 flying as Boeing 102 did a touch&go on Runway 28R at Portland International Airport #KPDX. Boeing test pilots flew it out of Boeing Field #KBFI. They also did touch&gos at Seattle-Tacoma #KSEA and Moses Lake #KMWH before coming to PDX. This is only the 2nd time I've seen a MAX10 in flight, first at PDX (previously at PAE in 2023.) FAA certification of the MAX10 is expected later in 2026. #B3XM #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  35. Though I didn't see public info about Monday's visit to Portland #KPDX by an RCAF🇨🇦 CC-330/A330, it appears likely related to NORAD. The F-15 fighter jets of Oregon Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing are under NORAD🇺🇸🇨🇦 command. #military #aviation #avgeek

  36. Aviation weather for Portland International airport (USA) is “KPDX 161953Z 16004KT 10SM SCT180 BKN250 15/06 A3018 RMK AO2 SLP219 T01500056” : See what it means on bigorre.org/aero/meteo/kpdx/en #portlandinternationalairport #airport #portland #usa #kpdx #pdx #metar #aviation #aviationweather #avgeek vl

  37. I got a picture of #NOAA Hurricane Hunter Gulfstream IV jet "Gonzo" #N49RF departing Portland Airport #KPDX at the end of what was a 6-week deployment to the Pacific Northwest to collect data on Pacific #AtmosphericRiver storms. It's now returning to its home base in Lakeland, Florida #KLAL. #aviation #avgeek #weather #PNW

  38. Here's why it's snowy in Seattle and rainy in Portland. A temperature difference indicates and prog chart confirms a front between them, with Seattle on the colder side of it. Even though some planes are diverting, some are making it into SEA. @JetTip indicates there were 20 diversions at #KSEA, 8 of them to #KPDX. But at the same time I checked ADS-B and saw an Alaska 787 landed at SEA on its first attempt. (If that one had diverted, camera📷 was ready.) #aviation #travel #weather #avgeek #PNW

  39. I got a @JetTip alert about SWA8502 N8772M MAX8 diverting to Portland #KPDX. Interesting, ferry flight out of maintenance from Everett #KPAE to Phoenix #KPHX - SWA doesn't serve PAE but uses maintenance facilities there. Can we figure out the issue? As a ferry flight, it can't be pax. PHX weather isn't bad now; thunderstorms forecast later. Apparently not urgent enough to divert closer like RNO, SMF, BOI, EUG or SLC. PDX is not a SWA base. adsb.lol/?icao=ac1301 #aviation #travel #avgeek

  40. Spotted approaching PDX this afternoon: Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800 N559AS in native-American themed "Xáat Kwáani (Salmon People)" special livery. This plane was previously "Salmon Thirty Salmon" before it needed repainting in 2023. I flew on this plane in Jan 2025 on the PDX-LAX leg of my trip to Australia. #KPDX #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  41. Spotted arriving at PDX today: green/unpainted Boeing 737 MAX8 as BOE242 on final approach to Runway 28L. The pre-painted rudder looks like AeroMexico, though missing the stripes of standard livery. It transmitted ADS-B data indicating this plane will be registered in Mexico. This is the first flight of the aircraft, coming from the Boeing 737 factory in Renton #KRNT to the Boeing Portland Paint Hangar. #KPDX #UnpaintedAirplane #PicklePlane #aviation #avgeek #PNW

  42. There goes Gonzo! #NOAA Hurricane Hunter Gulfstream IV jet "Gonzo" #N49RF departing Portland International Airport #KPDX in the rain at noon PST today for #science observations from above the front off the coast. The data from these flights are intended to get more data from above Pacific fronts to improve computer forecasting models after a major atmospheric river event in December increased priority of studying them. #aviation #avgeek #weather #PNW

  43. "Pendleton City Council recommends SkyWest Charter for airport service" by East Oregonian (Pendleton, #Oregon) - If US DoT Essential Air Service follows the local recommendation as expected, Boutique Air's 8-seat PC-12 turboprops will be replaced with SkyWest Airlines charter 30-seat CRJ200 jets on Portland #KPDX - Pendleton #KPDT route. Some locals objected that the larger planes require going through TSA checkpoint. eastoregonian.com/2026/02/03/p #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW
