  1. So lucky I was proven wrong by recent developments.

    In my rather longish interview with @linuxaudiodevelopment m, I had stated there was no 1176 compressor clone for #Linux.

    #KorneffAudio did it! And it's on discount. I just bought my license.

    The original “1176 Peak Limiter“ by UREI is a Compressor/Limiter that colors the sound. And this is exactly why people use it. Even live mixing consoles such as the #AllenHeathSQ or the #BehringerWing have a digital clone on these inside.

    The 1176 adds overtones and fattens up any signal. Which I'd not recommend for the singer of a smooth jazz band, but e.g. to make a rock singer slam their vocal cords right into your face, or making a kick drum shaking the audience… it has become an essential tool for many #AudioEngineer|s.

    First test: #KA1776 munches a little bit more of CPU in oversampling compared to boring compressors… but still.
