  2. #JTA:

*In one example cited by [fmr. State Dept. Spokesman Matther] Miller, he told Channel 13 that the secretary of state had told Netanyahu that he was “making it impossible to realize the dream that the State of Israel has had since its founding,” adding that Israel would be “bogged down here fighting this war for years and decades to come.”

Netanyahu allegedly replied: “You’re right. We are going to be fighting this war for decades to come. That’s the way it’s been. That’s the way it’s going to be.”*

The cynicism of such a view, and the carelessness it reflects with the lives of #Israel's soldiers (many of them in their teens and early 20s) is breathtaking.

Israelis don't want this war, but clearly, Bibi does. Yes, October 7th demanded a vigorous kinetic response; and yes, that always meant there would be civilian casualties (not least due to Hamas' use of schools and hospitals as missile sites). But. . .

  5. I attended Chabad #dayschool as a child. I have my issues with them, for sure, but one of them is not the quality of my secular #education. When I moved to public school in 10th grade I was well-prepared, and I went on to attend the college of my choice.

These NY #yeshivot, however, are a different story. They're attempting to create here what they've successfully created in #Israel: an entire generation of adults unable to make any contribution to society whatsoever; unable to make a living anywhere outside the #haredi community; unable to speak the language of their country; unable to act as informed citizens of a #democracy; and ultimately, unable to raise children of their own who are not similarly handicapped.

Torah-observant #Jews needn't be so isolated from the greater community.

Good for #NewYork for insisting that NY children be given the opportunity to become educated, fully-participating members of society.

  10. Wow, this #JTA story is pretty incredible, asking though questions about how far we should stretch when it comes to working in alliances with those with different values and norms.

On a side note, reading this makes me want to make some requests for the FBI files of some of my favorite, but sadly not-well known, #peace and solidarity activists.

  11. CW: Holocaust-era photos (newly discovered)

Amazing: newly-discovered photos of the #WarsawGhetto uprising are the only known such pictures to have been taken by anybody other than the Nazis. I do wish the #JTA article would have included information about how we can view the photos!
