  1. #JohnColtrane #Trane

This is something I didn’t want it to do, but it does it. It has been following a general pattern.

The free part in there I wanted it to be just something where we could improvise on the minor chord and improvise on the major chord.
It seems like it gets harder and harder to find something different on it.

I keep hoping I hear something different on it.

  3. Got Africa/Brass by John Coltrane on right now, a completely new-to-me record despite really loving some other Coltrane records I've never heard this one in all my listening for whatever reason. Digging it, there's a long percussion break on Africa that is kind of primal and fun.

  5. Listen to what John Coltrane is playing on this European tour with Miles Davis in 1960. What he was doing live would seep into his studio records a year or more later.

Think of where pop and rock music was in 1960, and look how Coltrane was so far ahead of everybody else -- harmonically, technically and conceptually.
