“I’m so glad you suggested visiting your parents,” Chino said, looking around.
“And the farmer’s market. Who would have thought it would be this exciting?” Rize stared at the people bustling about.
“Look at the teacup I found.” Syaro showed off her find. “So delicate and cheap.”
“And these Comice pears, just right to slice on vanilla ice cream...”
“Smell these dahlias. The scent, heaven. Look...”
“Fresh clotted cream on mother’s bread...”
…“with lavender syrup.”
..."tomatoes."
..."smells like sunshine."
Their voices mixed, swirling in wondrous delight.

*** Swallow’s Waltz ***“Under here, everyone,” Maya yelled as the rain began.
It was dry under the railroad trestle. An odd mixture of old creosote and new rain scented the air. Cornflowers bloomed in the shelter of the old posts, the same soft blue as Chino’s hair.
Across from them, a shadowed area stretched under the tracks. “Let’s pretend a troll lives here. Fee. Fia. Foe…” Maya began.
“Let’s not,” Megu and Chino said.
Outside their shelter, a drizzle fell, but heavy cloud masses hinted at a downpour.
“Look, swallows,” Chino said, pointing. Outside the bridge, they darted between raindrops, catching and swallowing the evening gnats as they wove a dance.
“Woah!” Megu said. The magical moment entranced the three as they watched.
Chino squeezed Megu’s hand, eyes wide. “It’s like a waltz.”
Megu nodded. “A rainy-day waltz.”
Thunder rolled in the distance like drums warning of a climax, but the dancers continued the ballet for the three young observers.
Maya suddenly shattered the moment by making zig-zag motions with her hands. “Let’s run home. I bet I can dodge rain. The person who gets the wettest is a rotten egg.”
“No.” Chino was firm, the wonder still sparkling in her eyes.
“Look,” Megu said, pointing, “nests. I wonder if there are chicks.” The three peered at the mud-and-straw nests nestled beneath the bridge beams. It was another wonder on display.
“They must be ‘Mud Dobber Swallows,’” Chino said. “I saw them in a book at school. Let’s just watch.”
They lingered, the rain a gentle backdrop to their fascination, until Megu blinked. “The rain’s stopped. I want to show the others.”
“Yeah!” And off they ran to Rabbit House, accompanied by delighted shrieks as Maya discovered a rain puddle, followed by, “Hey, wait up!”

#EngenderedWriting 15 Have you written slice of life stories?
Today's story is hitting many of these prompts. A yuri, slice of life, gender pregnant story. Short like most of my slice of life stories.

Unironically one of the best anime I'm watching right now is Little Shark's Outings. It's free on YouTube with subtitles and is the happiest soul healing lil short form show around!
If you just need a little joy boost in your day, watch a bunch of episodes.

#WritersCoffeeClub 12.27 —#Writing If you write in more than one genre, which is your go-to?
My def go-to is #yuri except for a few micro or flash pieces everything deals with the relationship between one or more women.
(For anyone who might not know yuri is a sub-genre of #romance / #SapphicRomance that incorporates Japanese tropes rather than Western ones.)
I blend my yuri with varying degrees with:
#Paranormal #ParanormalRomance #Sapphic
#Horror #PsychologicalHorror
#Creepypasta
#JapaneseMythology
#SliceOfLife #IyashikeiWhile I no longer try and predict the future, it seems unlikely I will write outside the yuri genre.

You know an anime is a true good #Iyashikei anime when you re-watched it 2 or 3 times and still don't know the name of the characters.

I was looking up answers to the question: "Why does Japan have #iyashikei (calming, peaceful, healing stories) but the US doesn't, and focuses on tension and danger instead?"
I found this reddit comment by u/EmmaRoseheart:
> Western TV shows don't do that sort of thing at all because the whole thing of iyashikei is deeply antithetical to the traditional Western mode of storytelling.
What does that mean? /rh Obviously I dug deeper.
Western #storytelling is generally based around the 3-act or 5-act structures. There's conflict and danger, which gets more intense over time, and the protagonist grows and changes.
But there's a Japanese storytelling structure called #kishotenketsu, which isn't necessarily about conflict or danger. Instead - from what I understand - it's about building up to a twist or revelation. Which often re-contextualizes the story.
I think I want to try #writing in this style sometime. Maybe a story about exploration and discovery, set in a beautiful and peaceful world.

Flying Witch - 12 Episodes
It's one of the #Iyashikei (healing anime) shows. Makoto is a highschool-age witch-in-training who moves to a small town to stay with relatives, so she can complete her studies. The flashiest thing she can do is fly a broomstick, though she's most interested in potions, herbs and gardening. She visits a flying whale, a magical cafe, and meets the harbingers of Spring and Fall. It's a cute, relaxing story that'll give you a smile after each episode. -
Iyashikei: We can take care of each other
It was tricky to find my topic this month. I knew I wanted to write something that felt meaningful and fully fleshed out. Many things I considered writing about just felt hollow until a magical thread of synergy wove through my thoughts over the last week.
It began with an article that has been floating around recently whic

If it doesn't get to dark on the drama #Given just might be the #Iyashikei (healing #anime) of the season for me. It looks amazing, the music is really good and so far it's mostly cute boys hanging out.
