#introducemyself — Public Fediverse posts

This is my first post on GoToSocial. I'm on Mastodon and several other Fediverse instances (as indicated via the biolink page referenced in my profile). I'll keep this short: I'm testing GoToSocial to see if I want to set up a small/personal instance for myself, and possibly a few friends to use.

I will make some more posts from here, just to get a feel for the system. I will say I like the fact that GoToSocial is designed to work with numerous frontends. That's one of the things that has attracted me to it. (And some of the features I've read about in the documentation.)

I'd like to #introducemyself and I'm happy to be here and still learning how this platform works, but it seems to be pretty simple.

I used #Twitter mostly for professional reasons. I follow those within my field, and occasional nerd things. I used Twitter as a platform to find out the latest news in the #cybersecurity field. As you might know, when vulnerabilities first come out they sometimes show up on these platforms before the official press releases are sent. Which is why I'm genuinely sad that Twitter has become difficult to use anymore.

IRL, I am a very happy and friendly person, and I like to surround myself with those who are also happy and friendly people, and that's why I'm here. 😀​

I very much look forward with engaging the #IT #cybersecurity and #infosec communities on here.

A little more about me:
- I work in the #Cybersecurity #Cloud #Infrastructure #systemsengineering fields.
- I believe a lot of technical challenges can be solved through automation. It's important to work hard, but it's more important to work efficiently.
- I love scripting in Python, PHP, SQL, and PowerShell. I will also learn scripting on the fly for a project.
- I have various certifications, including the CISSP and working on the CCSP next! #isc2
- In my downtime I am studying over 30 languages, only speak 3-4 fluently, 5-8 semi-fluently. I'm very fascinated in the history of proto-languages and how they've woven into the modern languages we have today.
- I'm a STEM, Sci-Fi, and Marvel/DC nerd; an example of this is that I once watched all of #StarTrek in chronological order to the Star Trek universe -- it took 9 months, but was worth it. 🤓​

Finally, I like to learn something new everyday, and today it's #Mastodon 🤓​

After some time as the comms lead for the Nature-based Solutions Initiative, I'm returning to #polar research with a post-doc looking at northward expansion of beavers in the Canadian Arctic.

My PhD research focused on the reconstruction of Holocene #Arctic sea ice dynamics and climate changes, and I have a background in Geology & Geophysics.

I am passionate about science, nature, environmental issues, enjoy writing and nature photography, and I love getting outdoors!
