Re: getting a new #coffee maker (just a #drip machine, nothing fancy), my turn to vent about companies being absolutely awful at industrial design, user interface, and #user experience... again. I swear, #consumer #product companies were far better at these things 30 years ago.
My needs are simple: I want a drip coffee maker that takes a cone filter and has an on/off #switch or button. There are some out there that have a physical rocker switch, generally an illuminated one down low on the right side of the unit. Those are great - you're controlling the power directly. Except the one extra feature I want is for the thing to turn off the carafe hot plate after a period of time if you accidentally forget to turn it off, and you only get that with an electronic unit..
That delay period doesn't need to be configurable or anything, just as long as it has a sensible value. Two hours is common. But one I looked at ticked all my boxes, except the automatic shutoff was only 40 minutes. That's ridiculous; many people drink coffee over a longer period of time than that.
But every time I need a coffee maker, I have to page through the specs of 15 or 20 models to find one that fulfills the meagre requirements I have - and then it has a ton of "features" I don't want, which just push up the price and make it harder to use. And this has been getting worse.
Today, I bought a Braun unit. Stupidly expensive (CDN $90).
