  1. So I'd like to be spending my "music time" working on one of the many big projects I have in progress - not least an entry for #FediVision which is coming up fast.

But of course my brain has other ideas, so here's another #image2midi track, based on the picture of my cat Millie that I took (and posted here) at the weekend.

You can "hear" her pink nose around 0:29. The black ears and eyes are an absence of notes.

  2. Fashionably late here's my contribution to #303day: 🙃

It's a remix of my first #Image2BonkWave track (originally created with @yonder's incredible #Python script).

This version is still based on the original MIDI file, but is more of an #Electro beat with a bunch of added live-tweaked stuff, including a fairly restrained TD-3 bassline.

Check out the original and links to the tool in this thread: chaos.social/@axwax/1117557429

  3. @MattCrumpLab

That's very cool - I could imagine this creating some interesting stuff when used with @yonder's #Image2MIDI / #Image2BonkWave tool!

  4. Have you seen the #Faircamp #WebRing lately?

    Try #Fediverse googleless discovery!

Check out @keefmarshall great music. His groundbreaking #Image2BonkWave track & then just click next to discover an amazing musician that you've probably never heard.

Not your genre? Click Next. No harm no foul. I gurantee that you'll find some #music that you love.

  5. @disquiet The top are your recordings & the bottom is the output of @yonder #Image2BonkWave python script.

    It's nifty.

  6. I've been thinking about how to draw a distinction between ethical and non-ethical generative #Art

For instance, I like using the bit art & mandelbrot bots to start collages. These are randomly and mathematically derived. Ethical, imo.

Contrast that against the LLM's which are built off of stealing people's labor (sound familiar?). Largely unethical, imo.

Another sort of generative art that I'm involved with is #DataSonification & #Image2BonkWave. These use a copy left python script and open source DAW's producing #CreativeCommons music. Ethical and quite badass, imo.

  7. @CyberneticForests Gladly! 😄

If you click on #Image2BonkWave you should be able to see some examples and discussion, but @yonder created a python script that takes an image and outputs a MIDI file.

The 2 best current examples are this one from Yonder

And this one from @keefmarshall. It has the added benefit of the scrolling from soundcloud app, which basically creates a music video from a picture of a sunset.

  8. My latest #Image2BonkWave experiment is a collaboration with @SrRochardBunson, who provided the image that forms the basis of the composition.

As with previous experiments none of this would have been possible without @yonder's amazing #Python script doing the hard work of #Image2MIDI conversion.

As always no MIDI notes were harmed (aka altered), only suitable instruments and plugins were used to best represent the vision of the original artist.

  9. I can't probably convey how excited I am about the #BonkWave crew's #DataSonification efforts!

@yonder wrote a python script and at least 4 people have already used it to turn pictures into music with no AI involved! The same sort of thing that NASA is using to hear black holes!

@keefmarshall is the latest one and you have to click to Soundcloud to get the full picture. The track sonicates from left to right and pans as it progresses.

I don't know if it's bonkwave or #NotBonkWave but it is AMAZING!

  10. okay, first I had to install python

and I need to spend some time really understanding how to mess with #MIDI in #Reaper

but here's a quick go based on my #Ibanez avatar image

  11. Future #BonkWave #DataSonification album idea?
    :blobcatthink:

    "Bonk Waves to the Pictures"

An album made of songs from #PublicDomain or #CreativeCommons movie stills.

What do you think about this potential #Synthesthesia project?

    What image would you choose?

    Ok, last one (for now)!

This time it's an (accidentally upside-down) picture of some balls at an art installation.

Same sounds as above with no editing on my part.

Another #Image2BonkWave experiment (see above posts for some more details and code download).

Who'd have thunk an apple picker could sound this funky!

I used *exactly* the same Ableton Live project, with no changes whatsoever and just dropped in my new MIDI file. 🤯

  14. @yonder @SrRochardBunson @venya

I finally got round to sorting out my #Python on Windows (usually I just used it in WSL or on my server) and had a first play with the GUI app aka example-07. Naturally I had to use the Bonk Knob Records logo😂

I just used the default settings to generate a MIDI file, then loaded it into Ableton, used a random VST for every of the 8 tracks (including the drums), pitched some tracks down by an octave and slapped on some FX.
