Thanks to #ICPhS2023 putting the plenary talks online, and @justinjhlo letting me know, I was able to hear this gem from the talk I missed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prrMaLrkc5U
(It's a harbour #seal saying like "hey!" and "come over here!" in working class New England English and it's brilliant.)

I've done an impeccable U-turn and downloaded the full #ICPhS2023 proceedings, and what I really would like to know is why it's already the *second* edition!?
Also if you're desperate to know the page numbers of your papers (eg to update CVs) but don't want to download the whole 875MB brick, let me know and I'll be happy to look them up.

looking through the official #ICPhS2023 photo album and, for sure there are some really nice pics, but my goodness some of them are so paparazzi-style it's very creepy

Hey #ICPhS2023 attendees, anyone else seeing "File is in owner's trash" when trying to access the conference proceedings? :face_melting:

You know what, I truly enjoyed #ICPhS2023, and a lot more than I'd expected to.
Maybe still it's the adrenaline talking, but I'm not as drained as I'd expected as well.
Can't wait for #ICPhS2027 @ Victoria, Canada!

Some kind folk took really lovely pictures of me giving my talk at #ICPhS2023 yesterday and managed to make me look engaging and all 🥰

It is the BEST THING EVER to see someone investigate a research question you've always had, but do it better than you could've ever done.
Check out Melanie Weireich and Adrian Simpson's #ICPhS2023 paper, "Changes in parents' phonetic parameters during the first year of a child's life: A comparative study of German and Swedish"
Fascinating correlations, and lack thereof, between femininity self-rating of fathers and mothers, and their f0 production over time.

Titia Bender's #ICPhS2023 plenary talk is intellectually excellent, but coincidentally personal for me. In discussing understudied languages in child language acquisition, she's chosen my husband's language (Akan-Twi in Ghana's Eastern Region) and my like-a-sister friend's language (Saudi Arabic) 🥰🥰

Talk 2 in this session, and so far both presenters have framed social effects as conscious and in contrast to automatic effects 🤦🏻♀️ Will all talks in this session do that, I wonder? Stay tuned!
(No shade, btw; I know it's a widespread misunderstanding. So It's just a good reminder for me to talk more about automatic social practice in the chapter I'm currently working on.)

Hoping #ICPhS2023 organizers can figure out the #vegan food situation I've asked them about. They are always out of their vegan item by the time I get to the special diet section during breaks, so I'm stuck with whatever I have in my bag...

I am finding #ICPhS2023 unexplicably exhausting. I don't have jet lag, I'm not attending all the sessions, and yet I feel sooo tired! Are large, in person conferences forever changed for me? (For others?) Some people seem genuinely thrilled to be back in person on such a big scale. I'm not upset about it, just drained.

I met a fellow harpist today at #ICPhS2023 and I cannot sufficiently express how emotional I was

Wow, the poster rooms at #ICPhS2023 are intense! Multitalker babble noise in the extreme, and can barely walk between posters. Exciting to see so many speech people in the same room, but also makes me a bit anxious

Prague here we gooooooo, see you at #ICPhS2023, phoneticians!
Unbelievably I’m not the only one flying from Leeds. -
The Scots are off to Prague! On board a plane with a colleague from Edinburgh and four phoneticians from Glasgow 🥰 #ICPhS #ICPhS2023

🧵 Some thoughts on how the #ICPhS2023 session "Sociophonetics: Other varieties" (previously "Other languages") is titled.
Our paper is one of two on Korean in the session, together with one on Silesian Czech, one on German & Swedish, and one (I believe) German.

#ICPhS2023 paper revisions done and resubmitted, and accepted version uploaded to arXiv! Looking forward to seeing everyone in Prague! https://arxiv.org/abs/2304.06183

Three more deadlines to come over the next week, but I've finally got the biggest one down (#ICPhS2023) and so I *will* be celebrating tonight with more home DIY

Doing that happy dance when you find out you've got more time to write your #ICPhS2023 paper
