Re-reading Carolyn Miller's "Genre as Social Action" (1984) and Anne Freadman's "Uptake" (2002) for my class tomorrow. Some people are just so much better than you that you really can't even manage jealousy.
I've read them many times before, they still teach me things I didn't know.

I'm lecturing on basic genre understanding on Tueday morning. I'm going to open with this marvellous showpiece perfomance. Enjoy.

Much as I like to teach, six hours of it at university level is enough to make a hard man humble.
I still have two more to go.

Har i dag læst Inger Christensens "Alfabet" med mine studerende og kan med fornøjelse berette, at ungdommen aldeles ikke er i forfald. Jeg ved så meget mere om digtet ved deres hjælp, end jeg vidste, da jeg ankom.

I did a new thing today: brought my guitar to class.
It took some planning and there had to be a didactic point to bringing it in this particular lesson. Also, it took more than one deep breath.
But the true didactic point was another - obviously. Singing to the students makes for fun, non-standard teaching; and fun, non-standard teaching makes the students alert, and helps them understand and remember the point being made.

Skal om lidt undervise i Blicher. Der er få fornøjelser større end at undervise i Blicher. Ganske vist har historierne stort set altid et rædsomt forløb (i det mindste de berømte af dem), men ÅH hvilket rædsomt forløb.

Next year I'll teach a course in "Literature and Sustainability". It's primarily about Danish literature, but I would love to have some English language works too, just to add reach, depth and perspective. So what are your best suggestions?

CW: Teaching genre
I'm teaching basic genre theory today. I love teaching basic genre theory. My students do not love it when I teach basic genre theory. In the end, however, my students often end up fairly engrossed in basic genre theory. #IAmTeaching #UniversityLife #genre

This is your daily reminder that you have millions of friends and allies in the EU.
Also, as your memory grows longer, "contemporary" becomes a wider field. Today, I'm teaching Dorrit Cohn's "The Distinction of Fiction" (1999). To me, a contemporary masterpiece; to many of my students, a book published before they were born. So I'm interested to know whether they can see it as modern, or whether it's an antique to them.
