  1. The first picture shows my daily keyboard. It was done as temporary and serves me for over a year. But slowly dies.

The second picture is a WIP layout for the new one. Still will be cheap, but with PCB, hotswap switches and case. There will be encoder in top right corner.

Have to think what else to change in it. Suggestions anyone?

  6. Soldering SMD components for the first time. 1206 size diodes only so went easy.

H261 works. Needs cleaning and casing.

    #HrwKeys

  7. PCB for my new keyboard arrived. Purple, so it fits Ultimate Pico colour.

Next days will be soldering diodes, switches and MCU to get it working.

Then 5-ways as they need keycap modifications.

And will 3d print case with USB hub integrated.

    #HrwKeys

  8. My keyboard got an upgrade today.

The usb hub on my desk was a bit far away so I decided to move my Yubikeys closer to the keyboard.

By adding USB hub into keyboard. Cheap, aliexpress one. Was something around 1-2€ for a pcb.

My next keyboard will have usb hub as well but better hidden. And maybe usb 3/5Gbps one.

  9. Long time since last post in #HrwKeys story.

Waiting for PCB for my h261v6 keyboard. In meantime I noticed that it has one extra key between "0" and "Backspace".

Design of the bottom case in progress.

    Will be fun.

  10. If you are in keyboard layout design and use KLE then know that there is KLE NG: editor.keyboard-tools.xyz/

  11. After almost year of using "temporary" keyboard, time to build a new one.

    - much robust case design
    - Ultimate pico again
    - built-in usb hub (for yubikeys)
    - low profile keys
    - one encoder (volume/media)

Will see how it will serve.

  12. My 4th keyboard project went to print. Still in Alice land.

This time kind of variant of Jabberwocky [1] one. So columns of keys to make a difference.

Will have to give it some name, other than work-in-progress one ("Śledzik").

  13. "Use QMK!" they said.

"No, use VIA! You will have a way to configure keyboard via web browser!" said others.

"Forget QMK or VIA, use VIAL!" said yet another group.

You know what I say? Forget VIAL - it is interesting fork with even worse docs than QMK (which has awful docs).

    Go QMK + VIA_ENABLE=yes.

  14. After looking at all projects which can generate STL with keyboard plate I think that my next keyboard will lack case again.

It is easy to generate plate for/in OpenSCAD. But adding holes is more complicated ;D

Or maybe I can generate file in OpenSCAD, export and then edit it in FreeCAD...

  15. I got a set of Aomeba Royale pcbs to make next keyboard less messy.

Turned out that I messed paneling offsets. I can do horizontal lines but not vertical ones.

Well, shit happens. Next time will be better.

  16. I found another OpenSCAD keyboard code for generating mechanical keyboards. This time it is 'Keyboard STL Generator' by Jeffrey Minton:

    github.com/jeffminton/keyboard

Nice stuff, handles rotated keys, does stabilisers. Takes KLE json as input.

Can even cut keyboard into parts but not when rotated keys are used. So instead I split my keyboard into two projects.

The problem is that the right part of keyboard has 245mm. Have to go back to design as I have to fit in 235x235mm.

  17. A few months ago I found OpenSCAD scripts for keyboard cases done by Len Trigg:
    github.com/Lenbok/scad-keyboar

Tried it, forked and started experimenting with cases.

I fixed some issues, reformatted code, understood some of it.

Today I got test print. We need to calibrate the printer cause 3 switch holes are a bit to small to fit the switch without fixing.

Need.to check mounting holes and wall thickness. And find a better way to mount usb-c socket.

    Fun.

  18. Before making a new keyboard I have decided to change current one a bit.

I got this set of keycaps during Mechanicon as a freebie from "free shit" box.

No idea when last time I used such high keys. Maybe in the 90s, with HP 2623A text terminal. They feel weird.

  19. My album with photos from Mechanicon 2025;

Tried to organise it a bit. Feel free to comment there.

  20. Today I am at Mechanicon in Frankfurt.

    Presenting two of my keyboards:
    - Alicja (fork of Adelheid)
    - Alpha 60 (60% with alphabetical layout)

Amazing event. Saw so many layouts, had countless discussions. Got some freebies and several ideas for new keyboard.

  21. Another keyboard soon. This time remix of a Redox keyboard.

Will have two encoders. And who knows, maybe something else.

I hope to not get lost with layout.

    #HrwKeys

  22. I am thinking of making remix of Redox split keyboard.

With wrist pads and encoders. Handwired of course.

There is a project for OpenSCAD to generate bottom case and switch plate. Will have to try to migrate those models to FreeCAD and then modify there.

It feels easier for me to add/remove/move 3d objects than describe them in code.

    #HrwKeys

  23. I am closer and closer to adding thumb cluster to my keyboard.

Now used ModTap feature of QMK to have LeftSpace working as LeftAlt when pressed with other key.

With my way of holding hands over keys I have LeftSpace and Meta keys right under left thumb so it is handier to use than get thumb under my palm as I used to do.

    #HrwKeys

  24. My prototype got working encoders to find out how this piece of QMK works.

First tried to get them working as keys in matrix as this does not require extra pins on MCU. But need to write additional code made me into counting pins. Turned out that I had 8 free ones. Now 4 left ;D

Top encoder is media control. Volume Up/Down/Mute by default. Media Next/Prev/PlayPause with Fn.

Bottom one is for scrolling. Mouse wheel by default as it scrolls by lines. Page Up/Down with Fn.

    #HrwKeys

  25. At some point I will replace that prototype with something better.

Today added additional stand so it became sturdier. And started experimenting with encoders.

Also in meantime changed some keycaps.

    #HrwKeys

  26. Second keyboard is more complicated.

There is HJKL for left handed. 5-1 digits are for 5-based system for those who count from 1 (so 1-5, not 0-4).

3 Shift keys for writing small, large, big and huge letters (depend on amount of Shifts pressed).

All vowels (0YUOIEA3) are grouped above Fx block. Numpad+ is in a corner cause it is important key.

"1" and "8" in a middle are for websites asking for age.

"Del" is so close to Shifts to make it easier to remove all your work by mistake.

    #HrwKeys

  27. I have some broken mechanical keyboards bought for parts. Today asked my daughter to put keys on one of them.

"Which order?" she asked. "Any you want" I answered.

So she went with alphabetical one. And I think it is beautiful.

UPDATE: it is Alt Ctrl Fn Space now - to be in order too.

    #HrwKeys

  28. Redesigned my Adelheid clone to be less floppy. Waiting for some parts to arrive, may do some changes and then will be time for 3d printing.

I plan to integrate USB 2.0 hub to have space for yubikeys. Decided to not go into 5Gbps signalling ;D

    #HrwKeys

  29. After few days with my keyboard I know that it needs to be redone. Not fixed - redone.

    It is too floppy now.

    #HrwKeys

  30. I needed one 1.5u key. One key.

Spent 8€ (including shipping) on 2 broken keyboards.

Black one requires replacing one switch and will be fully functional (after adding Backslash keycap). One white does not respond.

Both will go to storage as keycap sources. I do not like red switches (both have them).

    #HrwKeys

  31. My version of Adelheid is working. Took me some hours of soldering and now I can type it on my own keyboard ;D
