  1. In S6:E8, I knew a face was very familiar but I thought it was Kristen Johnston from 3rd Rock from the Sun, which kinda confused me with the timing.

Turns out it was Rhea Seehorn, who I know* from Plur1bus, in one of her first roles.

*I watched a few episodes of BCS but stopped because of how Saul treated her character, and I never noted her name

  6. For several months now I put off watching what is literally and figuratively the most gut wrenching episode of the series, and in all of television that I've ever seen or know about: S6:E7, The Subway.

It's a tough watch, in every way, with an ending that is so simple, so profound, so deeply moving.

Vincent D'Onofrio gives a great performance as a most unsympathetic character for whom sympathy is deserved, and given.

  17. "Homicide: Life on the Street," was a game-changing television show when it launched in 1993. It was completely different to the formulaic police procedurals of the time, shot on handheld cameras, with no clear good or bad guys and a gritty approach to storytelling and visual style. It was loved by critics and discerning fans, but suffered from low ratings and network interference, though it still ran for seven seasons. Due to conflicts over music rights and the cost of adapting it to HD/4K, it went into TV purgatory, but now all 122 episodes and the movie are back on Peacock. For @TheConversationUS, media studies expert Summit Osur talks about how the show set the template for Peak TV.

  19. Homicide: Life on the Street S5:E22, Strangers and Other Partners Part 1

I'd forgotten this Beau Felton arc and how it took us back to the beginnings of the series to end that arc while starting its final arc by introducing new characters who would have much of the focus through the series' end.

The final rooftop scene with Pembleton and Bayliss is still better than what's in network television almost 30 years later.

  20. I took a break from rewatching Homicide: Life on the Street to give my brain a break from the intensity, and because I'm almost done with season 5 and there only two more seasons left, my least favorite, though there are some excellent episodes left.

The episode I watched tonight was S5:E18, Double Blind, which peels another layer of the Bayliss, done by Pembleton, of course.

"I love this show.", seriously though.

  21. I didn't start watching the show until sometime in season 3, and given the nature of network television in the 20th century, I may have missed several of the episodes before then, even in reruns and when they were last available for viewing.

I have seen the first episode before, and just rewatching it now proves my memory of the series as excellent holds up.

  22. For the first time, I think, all episodes of the NBC series, Homicide, are available to stream, on Peacock, including the movie!

It's best in the middle seasons, and has a strong ending, but I recommend watching it all.

It has the most complex two lead characters I've ever seen on network television, and is filled throughout with episodes and moments that are phenomenal, if sometimes tough.

  24. Homicide: Life on the Street S6:E6, Birthday has one of the saddest moments of the whole series.

It's another episode that helped blaze a trail in addressing societal problems, this time the issue of victim blaming.

The character of Grace Rivera, played by Allison Foland, is appealing and lost, making her ending that much more heartbreaking.

I think it's the most decent Falsone is throughout the series (but I still hate him, and Kellerman).
