It means one thing: EVERYONE who values democracy over tyranny must HOLD FAST to it. I think this powerfully represents a kind of life that is independent and self-sufficient, similar to the monks that live up on mountaintops, they are separate from whatever is down in the valley, they are maybe scratching out a life that is too demanding or severe for most folk, but they have the rare benefit of incredible raw natural beauty. I bet the water up there is so good.

Good God, life wears me out lately. It just makes me exhausted. Shit really feels like it’s getting real. A lunatic with dementia is ruling our country, surrounded by sycophants unable to utter any other words but yes sir, and those who are supposed to tell us that the house is burning down around us are just talking about the pretty colors of the flames. Two more of my friends got canned from federal service today because their office within #CMS was eliminated. Not sure if #DEI had anything to do with it but it wouldn’t surprise me. But, as always, tomorrow is another day. #Goodnight #HoldFast #EmpathyMatters

So the #Democratic Party, literally our only hope of stopping the #MAGA onslaught have once again caved in true #Vichy fashion. If the choice was between shutting down the government and saying yes to #Medicare and #Medicaid decimation, along with who knows whatever else, I’d choose the former ten times out of ten. The way I see it the #Dems now have absolutely zero leverage and the steamrolling of everything many of us have thought normal in #America will just continue apace. I’m sick at heart, and also angry, and I’m not sure what there really is to do right now. Vote? At this moment in time, with what we’re saying in the party supposedly on our side, that is feeling like a worthless gesture. Resist? How? I’m just a disabled nobody armed with nothing but a keyboard. I’m very angry with #MAGA voters, and I’m done trying to understand them. There is no common ground we could ever possibly find. Tonight Sarah and I attended a meeting of a grass-roots group here in #Knoxville called #JusticeKnox which works on the issues of housing, homeless, and transportation issues in the city. It’s a federation of many local churches. It was so refreshing to be in a group that believes in the things we believe in. We heard about social justice tonight, and I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that the federal government is actively scrubbing anything to do with social justice. At least we can work on those issues in our corner of the world. #Goodnight #HoldFast
