My hellebores bloomed! It took forever for the buds to open. Also, how do people take normal pictures of these flowers? I either have to twist the flower (gently) or lie down on the ground, since they mostly face down 🤔 Do everyone else's hellebores look up/straight ahead?

These wonderful things have been bred in a myriad of different colours, shapes & styles & are truly mesmerising
Folk travel from all around the world to come and see these stock plants and marvel at their splendour.
They are easy to grow, as long as you feed them well, plant in deep soil in spring sunshine & summer shade. Liquid feed monthly from April to September. They are prolific seed producers.

Quel plaisir j'ai eu aujourd'hui de voir la première #abeille 🐝 charpentière de l'année sur mes belles #hellebores 🌿 blanches et qui virent au vert avec un peu de rose lorsqu'elles sont pollinisées, surtout avec ce beau #soleil ☀️
L'abeille charpentière le #xylocopa de la famille des #hymenopteres est l'une des plus grosse abeille en France. Je la vois beaucoup sur mes sauges sclarées l'été et je peux la photographier régulièrement depuis des années grâce a cette plante.

Happy #Monday y'all. Our first #hellebores have appeared in the garden, which is amazing.
So, as the rest of the world disappears up its own backside, at least my garden is a safe haven of beauty, peace and calm whenever I need it.
Maybe the world will end due to the big orange pimple, and maybe it won't.
Maybe this is the lesson that the democratic world needs, and maybe it isn't.
I can't do much about the pox ridden satsuma over there, but I can look after what I can right here.

Not a particularly special looking arrangement today, but I'll excuse myself by saying I really only put it together to test out the paint job I did on this vessel.
For some reason it arrived speckled all over with pale green paint. I re-painted it with brown, black, and rubb'n'buff. Not bad!Just a little collection of hellebores, forsythia, and crabapple branches.

I get all excited at this time of year when our #hellebores start to make their presence known.
We have been collecting them for years & now have some really nice colours.
It's the sort of plant that needs to you get down on your knees & bow your head in order to really #appreciate the #beauty that these #winter wonders offer to those who approach with #gratitude & #curiosity.
We tend to use ours as an underplanting layer in the spring.
Cottage garden plants hide the leaves in the summer.

Winter garden is on my mind because its stars -- like these #hellebores -- are looking so jolly now. Here with #salvia, #dianthus and the David Austin Crocus rose.

The pond corner. The barrel will hold #peas later, but now it's #tulips (starring the double orange Orca), plus purple honesty that I dug up from where it had self-seeded. Behind it, #hellebores obscure the tiny pond, which is tucked into the corner and supports a few #frogs and #newts. A neighbor offered me her Victorian fireplace surround so I put it here with a mirror tucked behind, a trick from garden designer Mirabel Osler.

I love when #gardeners show a wide shot of their spaces, so here's our courtyard outside the kitchen window, taken yesterday. The fan trained peach grows in the bed at the right, under-planted with spring bulbs. Climbing #hydrangea and #clematis Polish Spirit will cover the trellis later. Beneath them are things that have finished flowering like #crocus and #hellebores, plus a carpet of lily of the valley that's about to burst open.
