A recent evaluation of the effects of exercise on almost 39,000 adults with hypertension, followed for 8 years, found that moderate intensity exercise reduced cardiovascular risk, with longer bouts possibly being more protective. Only short bouts of vigorous exercise--about 1 minute--were cardioprotective, whereas long bouts increased the risk of stroke.
